JERsiiY, A CORPORATION or nnw HANGER particularly to a new and improved hanger arrangement whereby the elements thereof a can be easily and expeditiously assembled.
The invention provides means whereby a hookcan be rigidly secured to a suitable wall in a facile and efficient manner. The invention also provides a hanger arrangement having some of the elements thereof arranged and constructed. so that they not only con.- tribute structurally towards the stability of the hook portion thereof but also serve to impartto thearrangement an ornamental appearance, 7 I V The invention also consists in certain new and original features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed. a V V 4 Although the novel features which are believed to be characteristic of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto, the invention. itself; as to its objectsand advantages, the mode'ofits operation and the manner of its organization, may be better understood by referring to thefollowing description taken in. connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part thereof, in which: I
Figure 1 is a front elevation of an e bodiment of. the present invention; a i FigureQ is a section taken on line 22 of Figure 1; and V Figure 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1. Like reference characters denote like parts inthe several figures of the drawing. v
' In the following description and in the claims parts will be identified byspecific names for convenience, but they are intended to be as generic in their application to similar parts as the art will permit. In accordance with a concrete exemplification of the present invention, there is shown in the accompanying drawing a metal wall 1 similar to that found in the interior of refrigerators.w Thiswall is provided with a circular aperture 2 and an elongated aperture 3. Cooperating with the wall 1 through the instrumentalitv of these apertures 2 and 3 is a hanger 4:. This hanger 4 includes a shank portion 5, one end of which is preferably provided with an upstanding extension 6 1 whichserves as a hook element. The other end of the shank 5 is provided with an angular offset 7, the terminus of which is bent to provide an angular end 8. As shown in Figure 2, the hanger arrangement assembled so that the "offset cooperating with the shank 5 and the angular end 8 ,ernbraces the back'part of the wall lbetween the apertures 2and3.
The offset 7 has a snug contact with the wall 1. To secure thisrelationship between theofi'set 7 and the wall 1, the'angular end 8 ispinched or otherwise-deformed to provide a detent 9 on that portionof 'said end adjacent. said walLQ' Mounted adjacent the wall plate 10 havingan ,aperture'll for the pas sage therethrough of the shank 5. The edge '12 ofthis'plate impingeson the wall 1', as
shown in Figures2 and 3. It is preferred to have the marginal portion 13 adjacent said edge,'angularly disposed with [reference to V r the plane. of said e'dge; Itis also preferred to .havethe plate 10 constructed of thin metal so that the center'portion l llthereof and the marginalportion 13 can flex slightly under manual pressure.
7 The shank 5 is pinched or otherwise deformed -to provide a detent 15.adjacent said plate 10.
It should be noted thatlthis capacity of a the center and .marginallportions 14 and 13, a respectively, of'the plate 10 to flex under manually. applied pressure'is not anjindis- 'pensable factor of I the present invention. a
The plate 10 may be constructed of heavymaterial, if desired, with the marginal-portions thereof built so as to 'be incapable of flexing, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
. In assembling'the hanger elements, the hanger 4 is first passed through the elongated aperture 3 and the angular end 8' inserted through the circular aperture 2 .into the position shown in Figure 2'. The hanger 4 is then pulled forwardly to providepres sure'contact between the offset 7 and'thewall V 1, and theangular endv8 is pinched witha suitable tool toform the 'detent 9 as close close .tothe flexed plate 10 as possible.v It
should'be noted that the stress applied to the center portion l l of the plate 1O not only 'servesto flex said portion, but also serves to press the edge 12 of said plate into conforming relationship with the surface of the wall 1. In this manner, the flexed portion 14 of said plate reacts forwardly and cooperates with the detent 15 so as 'to' bring the offset 7 into more intimate contact with the wall 1. Thi'sserves to effect asubstantial:rigi'dmounting forthehanger 4t.
It'should be noted that the plate 10 not only serves t'o structurally maintain the various' elements of the hanger arrangementin rigid relationship, but also imparts to said arrangementa decorativeeffect.
It should also be. noted thatfthe hanger arrangement, in accordance with the present invention, is very inexpensive and :can be very "expeditiouslyassembled. These hang ers can be 'easily replaced and theroperations for the assembling of the elements thereof facilely jperformedon one side iofthe wall. It should be furthernoted that-the present invention, by obviating the :necessity of threaded members, has eliminated those disadvantagesincidental to theloosening of such members; I
[Hanger arrangements constructed in, ac
7 eordan ce with the present'xinvention are particularly radapted to the interior of refrig erator-s wherethev serve to hold-"the shelves in wplacea Itisfobvious,"however, that they canzalso beadapted to any thin :rigid wall, such as a lmetal wall, without departing from the spirit of-the*invention. s
While certain hovel .features ofthe inventionhave been shown anddescribed and are pointed out in thesannexed claims, it will be understood'k'th-at various omissions, substitutions:and"changesinthe forms and de tails of I the device illustrated {U'ldflll'l' 7 its opl era'tion-maybem-ade bythose'skilled in the art without 1 departing" from the spirit of the invention. .7 a
