' application atea september as, una. serial, no. massa To all wO/m, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HEDVIG L. EinzelanssoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Lamp-Brackets; and ll do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to lamp brackets.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a lamp bracket which may be readily attached to a sewing machine, table or other desired object and when so attached will serye to efiiciently support a lamp so that the latter may be easily adjusted to suit existing conditions.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision-of alamp bracket which will be simple in construction, efficient invu'se and which may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost.
`With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
'In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp bracket constructed in accordance with the invention, same being shown attached to .a suitable support and the lamp held thereby disclosed in dotted lines. Fig. 2 a plan view of what is shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 a detail perspective of the lamp holding element of the bracket.
Referring to the drawings, the bracket is shown as comprising a U-shaped clamp A which includes spaced arms 10 and 11. Mounted in the arm 10 is a binding screw 12 which is 'adapted to be forced into engagement with a table or other member disposed between the arms 10 and 11 to secure the clamp to the table or member. The arms 10 and 11 are connected by a rivet 13 which serves to limit the movement of said ar-ms away from each other when the clamp is being secured to a supporting part. rlhe arms 10 and 11 are provided between their inner ends and the rivet 13 with registering' square openings 14 and 15 respectively in which latter is siidably mounted a square rod 16. The side of the rod 16 adjacent the bight portion of the clamp A is provided with a plurality of spaced notches 17 for a purpose which will presently appear. Secured to the bight portion of the clamp A is a leaf spring 18 the upper end of which is bent toward the rod 16 as at 19 and is adapted to engage in the recesses 17 to secure the rod 16 against downward movement under the influence of gravity. It will be apparent that the upper end 19 of the spring 18 may be manually disengaged from the recesses 17 so as to ermit of vertical adjustment of the rod 16 1n the openings 14 and 15 when desired.
Journaled on the upper end of the rod 16 for movement in a plane at right angles to said rod is an arm 20 and journaled on the free end of this arm 2O for movement in a plane at right angles to the rod 16 is a lamp holding element B. This lamp holding element is shown as comprising a single strip of metal bent upon itself to`form arms 21 and 22 which secure between same at their junction apin' 23 rotatably mounted in a sleeve 24 formed on the free end of the arm 20. The outer end of the arms 21 and 22 are bent outwardly and inwardly as at 25 and 426 respectively so as to form a lamp holding fork'. The outer end of the arm 22 is recessed as at 27 while the outer end Yof the arm 21 has pivotally connected thereto I struction of the latch member 2S it will beapparent that the reduced portions 29 can i latter7 and a lamp holding element j ournaled on the free ends of said arm, said lamp hold# ing element comprising a single strip of metal bent upon itself to form continuous arms, the free ends of said arms being bent outwardly and inwardly, and a latch mem- TINNIE A.
ber pivotally connected to theendof one ofi said`arms, said latch member being rovided with a series of reduced portions a apted to interchangeably engage in a recess in the end of the other arm whereby said arms ma be locked against movement away from eac other when disposed different distances -l apart.
In testimon whereof, I aix my signature, inpresence,o two witnesses. f
