Application filed January 25, 1908.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1908.
Serial No. 412,607.
and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will effect 'ively secure a lantern upon .a vehicle or any other desired place, in any desired angle in relation to the plane .of the support.
Another object of the invention is to provide a lantern of the type employing tubular side arms with a clamp which is adjustable to the various sizes of the lantern arms, and which may be readily positioned upon a suitable support, and effectively retained thereon.
With these objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and combination of elements hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lantern supported by my improvement. Fig. 2 is a perspectiveview of the elements comprising my improvement, illustrating them separated from each other. Fig. 3 is a modified form of support which may be employed with my invention.
In the accompanying drawings the numeral 1 illustrates a lantern of the ordinary construction, and provided with the usual side tubes 2. The bracket employed in my invention comprises a pair of members, each constituting an elongated concaved sleeve or body portion 3, having centrally positioned outwardly extending ears 4, positioned diametrically opposite each other and provided with perforations or openings 5, adapted for the reception of retaining elements 6, by which the members are secured upon one of the tubes of the lantern. One of the members of the sectional bracket has its ear 4 extending slightly beyond the ear of the opposite member, with which it is adapted to en-' gage, and this extension is provided with an upwardly extending screw threaded pintle 6, the purpose of which will hereinafter be described.
Positioned upon a vehicle, or other suitable support, is the lamp supporting member 7. This support comprises a body portion 8, provided with suitable perforations 9, adapted for the reception of retaining elements by which it is secured in position. The body of the support is provided with an outwardly extending eye 10 adapted for the reception of the pintle 6 of the clamp, and the pintle is effectively retained upon the eye by a winged nut 11.
From the above description it will be noted that I have provided a simple and effective bracket for lanterns, one which is easily and quickly applied and which will allow the lantern to be rotated upon the intle 6 to any desired position and effective y retained in said position by the winged nut 11.
It will be also seen that the clamping element of my device may be secured upon tubular lanterns of various sizes, and that the clamp, should it be desired, may remain a permanent attachment to the lantern, and thus provide the lantern with means whereby it can be attached to supports located at different places.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
In a device of the character set forth, a
clamp comprising a pair of elongated concaved body members provided with transversely arranged ears, securing members for the ears, one of the ears being provided with an extension formed with a threaded pintle, and a securing member having an offset provided with an eye adapted to engage the pintle, and a threaded retaining member for the pintle adapted to pivotally secure the clamp member upon the securing member.
In testimony whereof I affixmy signature vin presence of two witnesses.
