Description

Nov. 2l, 1939. E. R. .ERICKSON ADVERTISING DooR PULL Filed Feb. 20, 1959 INVENTOR. 1T W265i@ 5710/6602@ BY m y e? ATTORNEY 5 Patented Nov. 21, 1939 ADVERTISING DOOR PULL i Ernest R. Erickson, Des Moines, Iowa, assgnor to C. E. Erickson. Company, Incorporated, Des Moines, Iowa, a corporation of Iowa Application February 20, 1939, Serial No. 257,323`
10 Claims.
An robject of my present invention is to provide an advertising door pull of simple and inexpensive yconstruction particularly adapted for mounting on a door or the. like, and the parts thereof being so constructed and arranged that one advertising plate with its advertising material thereon may be used regardless of whether the handle of the structure is to be used on a right or left hand door.
More particularly, it is the object ofy my invention to provide an advertising door pull comprising a handle plate and an advertising plate which aretelescopically associated with each other so that either end ofthe advertising plate can be associated with the handle member to adapt the device for either right or left hand mounting dew pending on the door to which it is to bev applied.
A further object is to provide an extension plate for the free end of the advertising plate to span the width of a door within given limits so as to give a symmetrical and nished appearance to the advertising door pull regardless of the fact that doors vary in width and that the door pull will in actual practice be applied to different widths of doors.
Still a further and more specicobject is to provide an Iadvertising door pull which can be readily formed of sheet metal and in which one advertising plate can be used regardless of whether the handle is to be applied on the right hand side or the left hand side of a door, the handle for this purpose being mounted on a T- shaped handle plate which is symmetrical about its horizontal axis and the leg of which telescopicallyv coacts with the advertising plate. in such manner that either end of the plate can be telescopically associated therewith.
The foregoing objects as well as other and further objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description, accompanying drawing and appended claims. An embodimentl Figurel 3 is an enlarged. sectional viewl on the` line 3 3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of my advertising door pull;v and Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 5--5 of Figure 1.
On the accompanying drawing I have used the reference character H to indicatewgenerally a handleV member, A an advertising plate, and'E an extension plate. The handle member H consists of a handle plate having a leg- IG and arms I2 and I3. A handle I4 is connected with the-plate l2 as by nuts I5 mounted on reduced threaded extensions of the rodlike handle I4 (see FigureS).
The handle plate I0-I2-I3 may be formed of sheet metal or the like, preferably with a bevelled ange therearound yand including particularly a pair of bevelled flanges I6 on the upper and lower sides of theleg Ill. The arms i2-and I3 are provided withv openings Il to receive mounting elements such as screws I8 while the leg IIIr is provided with an opening I9.
The advertising plate A kconsists of an elongated sheet of metal having bevelled flangesy 2@ terminating in'hooked flanges 2|. The iianges 2B and 2I coact withthe flanges If for telescopic association of the plate A relative to the handle member I-I. Openings 22 and 23vare provided in the plate A adjacent the ends thereof for selective registry with the opening I 9 depending upon which end of the plate A is telescopically associatedv with the leg I0. A fastening .element such as a bolt 24 (seeFigure 3) is located in the registered openings I9 and 22, or IQ and 23 as the case may be, t'o secure the members H and A together as a unit.
0 The extension plate E has :a pair of bevelled side flanges 25 and a bevelled end flange 2li. Adjacent the flange 2G an opening 2l isprovided. The extension plate E is adapted to assume either va non-extended position asy shown in Figure 1 and bysolid lines in Figure 3, or an extended position as shown in vFigure 2 and by dotted lines in Figure 3. When in the non-,extended position the opening 21 registers with the opening 23 (or with the opening 22, as the case may be) .to rey ceive a mounting screw 28. When in the extended position the openings just mentioned do not register and the opening 27 is thereupon adapted to receive a mounting screw 29 (see Figures 2 and 3).
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it` will be obvious that either end of the advertising plate A may be telescopically associated with the leg III of the handle member I-I depending on whether the handle is to be mounted left or right hand.
The arms I2 and I3 of the member I-I and the which way the door pull is to be mounted. This is obvious from a comparison of Figures 1 and 2 with each other.
Providing the openings 22 and 23 in each end of the advertising plate permits use of the fastening bolt 24 to connect the handle I-I and the plate A together as a unit regardless of Whether the handle is to be mountedleft or right hand. The extension plate E may then be used in nonextended position for a narrow door as shown by solid lines in Figure 3 in such manner that its end flange 26 gives a finished appearance to the free endy (or end opposite the handle H) of the plate A. When the door is wider as in Figure 2, the extension plate E may be extended to make the entire device conform in a more balanced manner to the size of the door and a screw 29 instead of va screw 28 can be used to mount the free end of the device on the door. Due to the telescopic connection between the parts A and E the part E can be extended to any desired position to accommodate different doors Within the limits 4of the length of the member E.
Having described one specific embodiment of my advertising door pull together with the adjustment, installation and operation thereof, I desire it to be understood that the form selected is for the purpose of facilitating the disclosure of the invention rather than to limit the form or details which the invention may assume. It is to be further understood that various modifications, adaptations and alterations may be applied to the specific form disclosed to meet the requirements of commercial practice without in any manner departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States:
