Description

' e. w. WALGROVE.
DRAWERS. I No.187,332. E'a'cented Feb-.13, 1877.
FIG.4.
mvNTOR.
- N.PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPMER, WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIG.
GEORGE W. WALGROVE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,332, dated February 13, 1877; application filed August 9, 1876.
ables.
To illustrate the principle of my invention, and enable those skilled in the art tomake the same, I will give a full and clear description of their construction, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 are views of the drawers as cu t, before sewing; Figs. 4 and 5, front and back view, respectively, of the top of the drawers; and Fig. 6, bottom of leg after having, been made.
Fig. 1 is the front or fore part of one leg of the drawers, with the top part out in the form of an ogee. Fig. 2 is the back part of the leg, with one or more Vs taken out of the top, and bottom of the leg is out rounding, which forms, when placed'in conjunction with Fig. l, a segment of a circle. By pressing down the top or rounded part of the leg to meet the lower part of the waistband, as shown by the dotted lines, and taking out the VS, a fullness or sack is formed, which fits over the hips in such a manner as to retain the drawers always in their proper place. This fullness or sack is shown in Fig. 4, and tight binding is not requisite, as the drawers retain their position by merely a close fit. The rounded bottom of the ankle, with the V out out, when closed with a band, as shown in Fig. 6, forms a fullness for the calf of the leg, thus rendering them easy either for sitting or walking when fastened around the ankle.
The tapes A B (l E are placed transversely on the waistband, which strengthen and add support to the body. The tape A follows the seam connecting the waistband with the legs of the drawers. Tape B, passing from the third button and button-hole, and intersecting the waist-seam at its top curve, is for the purpose of supporting the lower part of the stomach. Tapes 0 and D are binders, sustaining the waistband around the waist, and E is an auxiliary support to and around the body. The pockets, as shown in Fig. 3, and marked F, are so attached to these drawers that they furnish a safe and convenient place for money and other valuables, and are so arranged as to be easy of access only to the wearer.
The drawers constructed as above described form one of the most pleasant and convenient garments worn, which fits the body perfectly from the waist to the ankle, and is free from all defects, which constantly annoy the wearer, of drawers as heretofore constructed.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. 1n drawers having the fore part of the leg at the top, and where it is attached to the waistband of an ogee shape, as shown in Fig. 1, the top of back part of the leg rounded, and with one or more Vs taken out, as shown in Fig. 2, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. Drawers constructed substantially as above described and claimed, and having the bottom part of the legs rounded and one or more Vs taken out, as shown in Fig. 2, for the purpose set forth.
3. In combination with drawers, the tapes A B O D E, arranged around the waistband, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. In con bination with drawers constructed and arranged to operate as above described and claimed, the pockets F, substantially as described and shown.

EDWARD MANNING.
