N. PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON, D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
GEORGE L. PRICE, OF ORLEANS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAP-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,875, dated J anuary'SO, 1877 application tiled August 4, 1876.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. PRICE, of the village of Orleans, county of Ontario, State of New York, have invented an Improved Lap-Board and Attachments7 of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to provide a novel and convenient combination of devices with a lap-board, for ladies and others engaged in needlework, cutting out garments, and other purposes, and which shall be simple, cheap, and durable in construction and use.
Referring to the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure l represents a plan or top view of my invention, and Fig. 2 an end elevation.
A is the lap-board proper, of the usual form, (one end shown broken oft' to save space in the drawing.) The semicircular part ts about the body of the person as the board is laid on the lap. The devices to be hereafter described are placed on the under side of the board, to the right hand. B is a shearspocket, formed of leather or other suitable material. It is bound with a metallic strip, (f), for the purpose of keeping the mouth distended. It is provided, also, with a rubber retainer, D, stretched across the outside of the pocket, to hold its contents securely. E is a spool-holder--a rectangular metal framewith a pin through its center, upon which the spool of thread turns. On the side of' thc holder nearest the end of the board a series of tension-holes, F, is made, through which the thread is drawn from the spoolas needed and at H is a little cutter, by which the thread may be severed. I is a pin-cushion` turning upon the pivot J, so as to be turned under the board outI of the way, as shown in dotted lines, when not in use, The cushion is arranged, by means ot' an arm, a short distance below the bottom of the board, so that projecting pins may not come in contact with the same. Near the front edge of the board is laid oa a yard-measure, K.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with a lap-board, the shears-pocketfB, with `its metallic mouth C and retainer D. 2. In combination with a lap-board, the spool-holder E, when constructed with its tension-holes F and cutter H, substantially as shown.
3. The combination oi' the shears-pocket B and spool-holder E, when constructed and arranged in connection with the lap-board A, substantially as herein set forth and described.
