BELT ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. t5, t lld.
Application filed February 6, 1915. Serial No. 6,617.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN SAMUEL, of the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, a subject of the King of Roumania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates particularly to the attachments for belts whereby they are retained against vertical displacement, and it has for its object to provide a buckle of simple and inexpensive construction.
The invention consists of a buckle, the frame of Which is a unitary piece of Wire bent to rectangular form and having one end extended in hook form to present means for retaining the belt against vertical displacement and at the same time afford a stop preventing displacement of the tongue in one direction along the back bar of the buckle.
For full comprehension, however, of my invention, reference must be had to the accompanying drawings in which similar reference characters indicate the same parts, and Wherein Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view of my improved belt attachment in use.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the means illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the buckle frame.
The piece of Wire from which the frame of the buckle is made is bent so that the portion near one end forms half of the back bar of the buckle, as at 6, this portion continuing in one side, 0, the front bar, (Z, the opposite side 6, and the other half f of the back bar, the balance of the Wire being bent at substantially right angles to the back bar as at g, and being bent back upon itself as at it, thus forming a hook. The tongue consists of a piece of Wire having one side bent back upon itself in the form of an eye, m, pivoted upon the portion, f, of the back bar.
The hook is preferably disposed at an acute angle to the plane of the frame.
The belt is indicated at n and a slot 0 a short distance from one end thereof permits the hook and tongue to be passed therethrough when the buckle is being attached to the belt, the folded back end of the latter being stitched in place as usual. The hook is adapted to engage beneath the top most button of the front of the trousers. thereby preventing upward displacement of the belt.
My improved buckle, consisting as it does of a frame With the hook it formed therewith from a single piece of Wire is simple and inexpensive to make.
What I claim is as follows:
A trousers supporting belt buckle com prising a unitary member constituting a frame and hook, said member consisting of a unitary length of Wire bent in rectangular form and having one end extending inwardly relatively to the frame and parallel to the sides thereof and bent back upon itself in the form of a rigid hook, and a tongue pivotally mounted upon the end of the frame adjacent to the hook and extending parallel thereto, the said hook being adapted to prevent displacement of the tongue along the frame of the buckle in. one direction.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN SAMUEL. Witnesses:
