ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS, FHOTQ-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTONv D C.
.. NI'IED STATES STEPHEN S. NEWTON, OF BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN STRAINERS FOR FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,154, dated January 9, 1877; application filed October 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, STEPHEN S. NEWTON, of Binghamton, in the county of Broome, and
- in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a faucet with removable strainer, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal section of my improved faucet.
0 represents the body of the faucet, provided with the nozzle B. D is the plug of the faucet, provided with the usual passage a; and in addition thereto it is made hollow longitudinally from the endinward beyond said passage. Within this longitudinal bore is placed a cylinder, 12, made of wire-gauze or other equivalent material, and held therein by a screw, 01, which closes the end of the plug. This cylinder forms a strainer, which can easily be removed and replaced by a new one when required. The strainer thus constructed can also be turned around in the plug, so as to utilize every part thereof.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv In a faucet, the hollow plug D, provided with the passage a, the cylindrical removable metallic strainer b, and screw d, in combination with the barrel or body 0, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of September, 1876.
STEPHEN S. NEWTON.
