No. 197,557. Patented Nov. 27, 1877.l
WITNEIEEEE: i A M 6%.-
FER j i A'V'EIIFNEY I UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
FRANK opmnms, or LooxPoRT, NEW YORK.
IM PROVEM ENT IN FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,557, dated November 27, 1877; application filed October 25, 1877.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK C. LILLIs, of Lockport, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to certain improvements in locking-faucets, and is designed as an improvement on Letters Patent No. 189,904, granted to L. A. Rebasz, April 24, 1877.
rIhe invention consists in providing the screw-plug with a packing of any suitable material, to prevent the liquor from leaking, said packing being arranged and held in place as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art t0 which my invention appertains to-make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and arrangement, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of lthis specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section. Fig. 2 is a view showing the rubber packing, and Fig. 3 is a view showing a thimble keeping the packing in place.
A represents the barrel or body of a faucet, having a nozzle or spout, B, and a straight way, C, with which said spout unites. The bore D at the head of the barrel is enlarged,
as shown, for the reception of a screw-valve, consisting of a fixed nut, E, or other bearing through which works a screw-plug, F, operat- V around said stem G in the bore l), outside the fixed nut E, as shown. The packing is held in place by a thimble, I, being placed in the mouth of the bore I), and shoved up against the packing, expanding the same, thereby preventing any escape of liquor through or around the fixed nut.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 'is- In a locking-faucet, the combination of the barrel A, fixed nut E, and screw-plug F with the packing H and thimble I, all arranged, constructed, and operating substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK C. LILLIS.
