Description

SAMUEL P. BROWER, OI GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNCR OF THREE FOURTHS HIS RIGHT TO FREDERICK J. P. CHIT'IY, ISAAC J. DAVIS, AND ISAAC CRANDELL, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOP-COCKS.
Specification forming part'of Letters Patent No. 178,724, dated June 13, 1876; application filed May 17,1876.
NrrED STATES PATENT DFFICE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL P. BROWER, a resident of Glens Falls, in the county of WVarroll and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self- Packing Faucets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact deor any number of delivery pipes or "orifices,
as may be desired.
Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of a valve-seat and valve constructed according to my invention. Fig; 2 is a cross-section of the valve-seat, showing the delivery orifices or pipes. Fig. 3 is a front or face view of the valve.
A represents the seat adapted to be screwed onto the end of a supply pipe, provided with a conical bearing, a, and hole or perforation for the stem of the valve or faucet. Leading laterally from the conical part a are a series of perforations 0r pipes, b b.
B represents the valve, having an outside conical bearing-surface to correspond with and fitted to the bearing-surface a of the seat. The
inner end or side of the valve is recessed, and is provided with perforations c d.
The stem projects through the outer end of the seat, and is, provided with a suitable operating knob or handle, which is secured preferably by means of a screw, which serves the purpose of tightening the valve, as well as of securing the handle.
' The orifice d is elongated, as shown, so, as to uncover all of the perforations b b, or any number of them, as may be desired, or the orifice 0 may be used to permit communica tion with either of said perforations or pipes 12. By this construction of valve and seat the greater the pressure from within the better the fit, and by means of the differential orifices in the face of the valve the discharge may be regulated to either, any number, or all of the discharge pipes, at will.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by SAMUEL P. BROWER.
