Description

Pat'ented Aug. 3,1875.
I. LUBREE Faucet.
fer
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC LOBREE, ANTIOCH, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FAuCETs.'
Specilicatiou forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 166,211, dated August 3, 12375; application tiled J une 14, 1875.
To atl 'whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC LCEREE, of Antioch, in the county of Contra Costa and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part o f this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a faucet for drawing beer or other liquids, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a lon gitudinal section of my faucet, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same through the line .fr x, Fig. l. 4
A represents the hollow plug or barrel of my faucet, which is to be driven into the barrel containing the'liquid to be drawn. The chamber of the plug extends from the inner end outward for a suitable distance, and then communicates with the spout B, leaving the outer end ofthe plug solid withthe exception of a longitudinal hole with female screw-threads,
as shown at a, and a recess, b, in the extreme outer end. Through the plug A is passed a i rod, C, having screw-threads d near its outer `end, and the extreme outer end is made square for a key, Cr, to fit thereon. Ou the inner end of the rod C is fastened an ordinary Wingvalve, D. The rod C is screwed through the uut c of the plug, and by the use of the key G inserted in the recess b on the square end b of the rod the valve D is opened and closed as desired. When the valve is closed all the liquid remains in the barrel and none standsin the faucet, which is of great importance, as the liquid might deteriorate by continuous contact with the interior of the faucet.
I am aware that a rod has been used in connection with a separate or detached valve, said valve being operated in one direction by a spring; but this does not in anyA manner embrace my invention, as my valve is attached to the rod and operated'in both directions by the rod, thus dispensing with a detached valve and also with the spring, and also allows the plug to be cast all in one piece by my construction and arrangementof devices, and at the same time place the valve on the inner end of the plug.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The plug A, formed of a single piece, having spoilt B, nut a, and recess b, for a key, Gr, in combination with the screw-rod C, having valve D, extending beyond the plug, all constructed as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I aiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ISAAC LOBREE.
