It will be seen that on manipulation of the hand wheel 29 the block may be given a very fine adjustment relatively to the sleeve, so as to'accurately position the coned head 5 in the bore 16 of the member 6. With the construction described, therefore, the web rolls may be quickly loaded into position, and the supporting cones readily and easily adjusted.
While the invention has been shown and described in its preferred form, it will be understood that various changes can be made in the specific construction and arrangement of the parts and that the invention is not to be restricted to the exact construction shown and described.
What is claimed is 1 1. In a chuck mechanism, the combination of framing, a sleeve rotatably mounted in the framing, a concentric block, means connecting the sleeve and block so that they may have a relative axial movement but are held against relative rotation, a single cam groove in the sleeve, depressions at each end of the'groove, a spring pressed member cooperatin with the groove and arranged to enter the epressions for locking in either direction, means for rotating the sleeve to eflect a quick axial adjusting movement, and rigid means for effecting a fine adjustment of the block independently of the sleeve.
