Abstract

535,478. Locking levers. C. A. V., Ltd., NICOLLS, W. E. W., and EVANS. F. M. Oct. 9, 1939, No. 27518. [Class 80 (iii)] Consists in means for preventing movement of any one or more of a plurality of associated control levers excepting when another or others of the levers is or are in a pre-determined position or positions. A hollow cylindrical fixed bearing member a is formed or provided on the inner surface of one side of a casing f having openings g through which the levers project. Within this member is a rotatable spindle b formed on or associated with one of the levers c, whilst rotatably mounted on the member is a sleeve e formed on or associated with the other lever d. A radial aperture h in the member a houses a locking device, e.g. a ball or roller i. The outer surface of the spindle b and the inner surface of the sleeve e are each formed with one or more recesses j with which the locking piece can engage. When the locking member, which is of slightly greater diameter than the thickness of the member a, engages a recess j in either of the member b, e it is clear of the recess in the other of these members. Thus, as shown, the lever c is locked and cannot be moved until the other lever d is brought to the position in which the recess in the sleeve e lies opposite the locking piece. By making the recesses j sufficiently wide the levers may have a limited degree of freedom while in the locked position.
