DISPLAY CARD .Application led May 28, 1931. Serial No. 540,782.

The object of this invention is to provide a display card or folder in which an image or device is automatically drawn across the face of the card as the card is opened and closed.

The invention consists of a card transversely creased so as to be capable of being folded,

one of the folds having permanently attached thereto on one side of the line of the crease an image or object, such image or object being movably attached to the other fold on the opposite side of the line of the crease, so that the image, when the card is folded, is moved to one side of the line of crease and when the card is unfolded the image will be caused to travel or move across the face of the card, soas to represent an image or object in motion, as I will proceed now to more fully explain and finally claim.

Figure 1 is an inside plan view of the device in open position. Fig. 2 is a perspectiveview showing the image or object in motion as the card is moved from a folded condition into an open condition.

The device embodies a rectangular or other shape card, composed of the folds or leaves 1 and 2 separated by a crease 3 extending transverselyof the card and forming a line of fold between the two folds or leaves 1 and 2, whereby said folds or leaves may be opened out, as shown in Fig. 1, into a perfectly flat condition and may be moved toward, each other, as indicated in Fig. 2, to present the card in a folded condition where the two folds or leaves may be brought together one upon the other.

The foldsor leaves may be provided with any desired illustrations or advertising matter, as indicated in Fig. 1, where a traffic officer is shown governing the movements of an automobile and a tricycle rider.

The traffic officer and the automobile are xed, while the tricycle is so mounted as to actually move across the face ofthe card or folder as the leaves of the card are moved back and forth on theircrease or line of fold 3. As shown, there is a carrier 4 permanently fixed at 5 to one of the folds or vward and from each other, the carrier will or as a part of it, the representation of any `fiat position, the moving obj ect will be caused leavesand provided with a crease or hinge 6 and this carrier extends from this xed portion across the line of fold 3 and is provided with a transverse crosshead 7, the ends of which extend through a pair of parallel longitudinal slits 8 and 9 on the fold or leaf 2. 'lhe material 10 between the slits 8 and 9 remains as a permanentpart of the leaf 2, so that when the folds or leaves. are moved tobe caused to move back and forth across the face of the card or folder.

This material 10 serves as a base for the movement of the crosshead, and with the projccting ends of the crosshead overlying the part l0 and adjacent Aportion of the fold or leaf 2 so as to retainv the moving object in connection with the card.

This carrier may have mounted upon it, device which is ordinarily a motion device, 7o and I have herein shown the representation of a tricycle on which a child is mounted. Any other moving object may be used as a part of or a fixture upon the carrier and the legends on the card may be such as to be appropriate to the moving article.

As already indicated, when the cardA is opened up fiat, as in Fig. 1, all the parts are stationary, but when the folds or leaves lof the card are moved from the flat position into a folded position or any position between the flat and the completely folded l position or from the foldedposition into the to traverse the face of the card from one side to the other. The attached part ofthe car- 'rier 5 forms a sort of pivot for the carrier and said carrier is therefore capable of movement from such pivoted part across the face Vof the card,as indicated in part in Fig. 2.

Fig. 2 shows the folded card as well as the movable image in outline, and with the image moved from the position shown in Fig. 1 to a position to the right hand side of that position, and away from the line of foldv or crease 3. v

I am aware that it is not broadly new to provide a display folder 'or card with -an image representing motion and actually hav- '2 aesaese ing motion as the card or folder is opened and closed.

Variations in the details of construction are permissible within the principle of the invention and the claims following.

What claim is 1. A display card, com rising foldable leaves containing any suita le xed display matter and an'image mounted on a carrier,

which carrier is pivotally connected to one of the leaves and extends thence crosswise of the other leaf and movably connected with said other leaf by means of parallel slits in said other leaf and a crosshead on one end of the carrier in sliding engagement with said slits, so that` by folding and unfolding the leaves, said object so mounted will be caused to move transversely across the leaves.

Adisplay-card, creased midway between its ends Aand so providing connected folds or leaves, and an image carrier pivoted to one of the folds or leaves to one side of the line ofcrease and extending thence across the line '25 of crease over the other fold or leaf, said second mentioned fold or leaf having paral- Vlel slits extending longitudinally of the carrier and said carrier having a crosshead fitted in said slits and movable therein across the face of the card as .the card is opened and closed.
