Description

ADVERTISING DEVICE.
Application led February 18, 1924. Serial No. 693,533.
My inventionrelates to an advertising device and particularly to one having an 1ndicator for drawing attention to a particular portion thereof.
An object of the invention 1s to provide a two-leaf folder having an arm which moves from one position to another to emphasize or direct attention to an important feature displayed therein..
The invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth in the .following description of my invention. It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the showing made by the said description as I may adopt variant forms of my invention within the scope of the claims.
Referring to the drawings Figure l is a View of the fiat piece showing t-he position of the indicating arm when the sheet is open.
Figure 2 is a view of the folded piece, a portion of the upper page being broken away to show the position of the indicating arm when Jthe sheet is folded.
Broadly speaking, my invention comprises a folded sheet having an area adapted to display advertising matter and a movable arm so constructed that when the sheet is opened, it moves from one position toanother to focus the attention, of the one viewing the display, upon its important features. Closing the folder effects the recovery movement of the arm.
In detail, my invention comprises a sheet, preferably of cardboard, and having a fold line 2, dividing it into two portions 3 and a which are adapted to have advertising matter dis layed on one or both of their surfaces. fin indicating arm 6 is provided for the purpose of emphasizing the important features of the advertising display. The arm is secured to the portion 3 in any suitable manner, such as by adhesive, and eX- tends across the fold line 2 onto the portion 41. The free end of the arm is preferably formed to simulate an arrow head and may be vividly colored so that it stands out from the surface on which it lies. Means are provided for retaining the free end of the arm upon the surface of the portion 4. lTwo parallel slits are made in the portlon 4:
which form a. bridge strip 8 between which and the body of the sheet, the indicating arm is slidably retained. This retaining means is preferably made integral with the sheet in the manner just described, but it may be made, by securing a bridge strip to the surface of the sheet.
A crease 7 is.provided in the arm slightly to one side of the fold 2 and a small amount out of parallelism therewith, that is, the crease 7 and the fold line 2 are misalined. When the sheet is opened, as shown in Figure l, the crease 7 lies on the portion 3, in acute angular relation to the fold line 2; but when the sheet is folded, as shown in Figure 2, the crease 7 lies on the opposite side of the fold line but at the same angle therewith. This shifting position of the crease 7, occasioned by the simultaneous folding or unfolding of a sheet and arm with misalined, non-parallel creases, gives the indicating en'd of the arm 6 a longitudinal and lateral movement on the portion ll. The amount of longitudinal. movement depends on the degree of the angle between the fold line of the sheet and the crease in the arm, and the amount of lateral movement depends on the distance between the fold and the crease. It will readily be understood that a purely transverse movement of the indicating arm on .the portion I may be secured by making the crease 7 parallel to and slightly to one side of the fold line 2.
The movable arm is preferably a continuation of a representation of an arrow l2 which curves around on the portion 3 and points to some secondary feature of the display and the end 13 of the arrow is preferably vividly colored.
An aperture 9 of such dimension as will best adapt it for the purpose is provided in the portion 3 in register with a portion of the display shown on the inner surface of the portion 4c. An indicia 1l may be placed on the outer surface of the portion 3 for calling attention to the aperture 9.
I claim:
An advertising device comprising a folded sheet, printed matter on the inside of one fold representing a mechanical device one of the mechanical elements of which is of particular interest, a creased movable arm LLI in the form of an arrow secured at its one end to the other oid and extendingacross the fold line of Said sheet, the crease in said arm beingmisaiined with the oid line of said sheet7 means for retaining the free end of said arm contiguous With said Sheet, the head of the arrow being arranged so that when said sheet is opened the arrow head is moved from a position at one side of Said printed matter to a position to point 10 toward the mechanical element of particular interest.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
