This invention relates to improvements in display devices and has particular reference to a chart for exhibiting samples of fabric.
An object of the invention. is to provide an improved'chart, of simple and practical construction, in which the samples are so mounted that they are visible from both sides of the chart and may be graspedto determine the quality of the fabric.
The above and other :objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing a s Figure 1 is a perspective view of the chart Figure 2 is a similar view of the same in its folded position;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary enlarged plan View, partly broken away, illustrating the manner in which the samples are secured to the chart;
Figure 4 is an enlarged section on the line 44 of Figure 1; and
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5.5 of,
Figure 3. i a p I The chart of the present invention, which is particularly applicable for displaying samples of fabric, is in the form of a folder comprising a base sheet 6 of any suitable material, such as light cardboard, the end portions of which constitute cover sections 7.
The intermediate portion of the sheet is creased at 8 to providea folding line and divide said portions into display sections 9, each of which is formed with rowsv of rectangular openings 10.
In assembling the elements of the chart, a plurality of fabric samples 11 of different colors are mounted upon the base sheet 6 with one of said samples associated with'each of the openings 10. Each fabric sample 11 is of substantially the same area as the opening 10 and, in accordance with the present invention, each sample is arranged relative to its opening so that two of the edges of the ing 10 and are securedtosaid sheet by a suit able iadhesivef this otheritwoedges of the; sample are spaced from the adjaoent edges of the opening. To com,- plet'e the, chart, a second sheetl2 is superimposed upon each of the sections 9 of the sheet {Slandis provided with rows of openings 13 which align with the openings 10. The sheets 12 are secured to the sections 9 by a suitableadhesive and the inner or adjacent edges-ofsaid sheets are spaced apart, as indicated at 14, so as not to overlap the folding line 8, ther,eby permitting of a free movement of the sections 9 about said folding line when the chart is opened and closed.
Fromthe foregoing description, it will be seen that a portion of the edge of each sample em; Assrenon TofstruNzI SONS SILK llis interposed between the sheets 6 and 12 in such a manner as to securely hold the sample in position within the confines of the openings 10 and 13 and that the remaining edge portions of the sample will be free from the adjacent edges of said openings. It will further be seen from this construction that the samples 11 will be visible from both sides of the chart and that, by reason of the fact that edge portions of each sample are unattached to the sheets 6 and 12, said sample may be grasped from either side of the chart to enable a person to feel the quality of the sample. I v
What is claimed is: 1. Adisplay device for fabrics, comprising a mounting having an opening therein,- and a fabric sample of substantially the size and shape of said opening and disposed within the confines thereof so as to be visible from both sides of the mounting, a suflicient portion of the edge of said sample being secured to said mounting to normally maintain the sample in the plane of said opening,and theremaining portion being unattached to'said mounting.
2. A display device for fabrics, compris- 7 sample having a suificient portion of its edge secured between said sheets to normally maintain the sample in the plane of said openin s, the remaining portion of said edge of t e sample being free of said sheets.
3. A display device for fabrics, compris ing a mounting consisting of a base sheet having a rectangular opening therein, a second sheet superimposed upon said base sheet and also having a rectangular opening aligned with the first-named opening, and a fabric sample of substantially the size and shapeof said aligned openings and having two adjacent edges secured between said sheets with the remainder of the sample disposed wlthin the confines of said openings, the two remaining edges of said sample being spaced from the adjacent edges of the openings.
In testimony whereof, I have aifixed my signature. 7
HUGH DONNELL.
