Description

April 19, 1932. O JACOBSQN 1,855,052
POULTRY MARKER Filed F 1951 INVE fl RNEY Patented Apr. 19, 1932 UNITED STATES OSCAR A. JACOBSON, OF ZUIMBROTA, MINNESOTA POULTRY Mummy.
Application filed February 27, 1931. Serial 1%. 518,831?
This invention relates to poultry markers and has for an object the provision of a marker which is simple and cheap to manufacture, and may be quickly adjusted to position without the use of tools, and in addition, will be securely held in place without discomfort to the wearer and may not be removed without cutting.
With the above and other objects in view,
30 the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view illustrating the use of the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a view of the blank. Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the adjacent ends of the marker separated.
Figure 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the blank from which the marker is made. This blank may be constructed of aluminum, tin or other suitable bendable material and comprises a strip having one end bent so as to form a flexible hook 12, while the opposite end of the strip is reversely bent to provide a hook 13.
In addition, the strip has extending lat- :5 erally from opposite edges, oppositely arranged tabs 14 which are adapted to be bent over the strip and toward each other, while the tabs 14: have extending therefrom tabs 15, which are slightly spaced from the strip The marker may contain suitable indicia as indicated at 16 in Figure 3 of the drawings, and is adapted to be placed around the leg as shown in Figures 1 and 2. In this position the hooks 12 and 13 are engaged with the hook 12 disposed under the tabs 14: so as to prevent their accidental separation. The tabs 15 are bent downward upon the inner face of the band as shown in Figures 2 and 4 of the drawings and provides safety tabs to prevent the overlapped ends of the band from moving relatively and contracting or reducing the size of the band after its application.
The invention provides a marker which may be readily and securely adjusted to position by pressure of the fingers and without the use of tools so that danger of injury from such tools is avoided. With the marker strip positioned about a leg, the hook 12 is inserted under the flaps 14 so that the free end thereof will lock with the hook 13 and prevent separation of the ends of the strip 10 and consequently prevent the loss or accidental removal of the marker from the leg. As the hooks and tabs are upon the inside of the band, when once the marker is applied it will be securely held in position and cannot be removed without cutting. The marker may be made in various standard sizes.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properlv fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A poultry marker comprising a strip of bendable material, reversely arranged hooks at opposite ends of the strip to connect the ends thereof and provide a band, and bendable means carried by the strip to prevent accidental separation of the hook engaged ends of said strip.
2. A poultry marker comprising a strip of bendable material, reversely arranged hooks at opposite ends of the strip to connect the ends thereof and provide a band, and 0ppositely disposed bendable tabs extending from the edges of the strip for engagement over the hooked ends to prevent accidental separation of the latter.
3. A poultry marker formed from a single piece of bendable material and compris- 5 ing an elongated strip, reversely arranged hooks at opposite ends of the strip to connect the ends of the latter and provide a band, and oppositely disposed bendable tabs extending from the edges of the strip for 100 engagement over the hooked ends to prevent accidental separation of said ends.
4. A poultry marker comprising a strip of bendable material, reversely arranged hooks at opposite ends of the strip to connect the ends thereof and provide a band, oppositely disposed bendable tabs extending from the edges of the strip for engagement over the hooked ends to prevent accidental separation of the latter, and bendable means carried by said tabs to prevent relative inward movement of the'ends of the strip.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
, OSCAR A. JACOBSON.
