Description

Patented May 17, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE Application March 30, 1936, Serial No. 71,788
bined neck muiliers and chest protectors and it has for its principal object to provide an article of this character having a neck part which can be quickly wound around the neck of a wearer and secured in position to form an upstanding collar fastening under the chin and having suspended therefrom a chest protector part amxed to said neck part so that it will not disturb the upstanding position of the latter.
Another object is to provide an article of this character which provides for double protection at the front of the neck, is sightly in appearance and inexpensive to manufacture.
To the accompaniment of the above and other objects presently appearing a preferred embodiment of our invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in the following description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.
In said drawing: 7,
Figure l is a view in perspective illustrating our improved neck muiller and chest protector applied.
Figure 2 is a view in frontelevation of the combined muiiier and chest protector detached.
Figure 3 is a similar view in rear elevation, and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary view in perspective illustrating an alternative use of the muilier and chest protector.
The illustrated embodiment of our invention comprises a neck portion I in the form of a substantially rectangular strip or band of suitable fabric of the requisite length to be wound around the neck with its ends in overlapping relation. Preferably the edges of the strip I are reinforced by stitching as at 2. At suitable points snap action fastening devices such as glove fasteners 3 are secured to said portion I to retain the ends in overlapping position.
A chest protector flap 4 of any desired fabric material is secured to one end of the neck portion I to depend from the latter over the chest of the wearer when the ends of the portion I have been overlapped under the chin. The chest flap 4 is secured to the inner or rear side of the portion I by having its upper end stitched as at i to the portion i adjacent to the lower edge of the latter. As an additional means of securement an upper side edge of the portion 4 may be stitched to the adjacent end edge of the portion I as at 4. Preferably the flap portion 4 is gathered at its upper end as at l to present a sightly appearance and its side edges are reinforced by stitching as at I.
As shown in Figure l the article may be worn with the neck portion I overlying the flap 4 or as 5 shown in Figure 4 with the flap 4 folded over the upper edge of the portion I to provide an additional thickness under the chin.
What we claim is:
l. A combined neck muiiier and chest protector comprising a band of fabric material adapted to be wound around the neck to form a collar with its ends in. overlapping relation, a chest protector flap of fabric material having its upper edge portion secured to the inner face of said band adjacent one side edge of said band, the outer edge of said flap being substantially in line with said adjacent end edge of the band, fastening elements secured to said band along the opposite end edge of the band. and cooperating fastening elements secured to said band at a point located inwardly from said adjacent end edge of the band and inwardly of the longitudinal medial line of the flap, whereby when the fastening elements are in operative position the ends of the 5 band will be disposed in overlapped relation and the flap will extend downwardly from and at right angles to said overlapped ends of the band.
2. A combined neck muiiier and chest protector comprising a band of fabric material adapted to be wound around the neck to form a collar with its ends in overlapping relation. reinforcing stitches extending longitudinally of said band along its upper and lower edges, a chest protector flap of fabric material having its upper edge portion secured to the inner face of said band below the longitudinal medial line of the band and adjacent one side edge of the band with the outer longitudinal edge of said flap in substantial alinement with said adjacent end edge of the band. fastening elements secured to said band along the opposite end edgeof the band, and cooperating fastening elements secured to said band at a point located inwardly from said adjacent end edge of the band and inwardly of the longitudinal medial line of the flap, whereby when the fastening elements are in operative position the ends of the band will be disposed in overlapped relation and the flap will extend downwardly from and at right angles to said overlapped ends of the band. so
