IMPROVEMENT IN CARVlNG-FORKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1 85,074, dated December 5, 1876; application filed November 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN CADY, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Oarving- Forks; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon,
to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-- Figure 1, a side View; Fig. 2, a back View; Fig. 3, the rest detached; and in Fig. 4, a transverse view, showing the guard and rest as attached.
This invention relates to an improvement in carving-forks, with special reference to that From thin or light metal a n-shaped or bifurcated piece, 61 d, is formed and attached by its closed end to the guard above its hinge, as at e, and so that one of the legs will extend down each side of the shank of the fork, as shown. When the guard is turned down upon the fork, the legs d lie up near the sides of the shank; but when the. guard is turned up, as indicated in broken lines, then the legs turn down so as to form a rest for the support of the fork. This construction of the rest is much cheaper than where the guard and rest are made in one piece, and the application is made without in any manner changing the usual and desirable form of the guard.
I do not wish to be understood as claiming a carving-fork, guard, and rest, in which a leg extends down each side the shank, as such I am aware is not new; but
