Description

March 1, 1932. KLE|N HAIR CURLING DEVICE Filed Aug. 17, 1951 ATTORNEY.
i atentecl Mar. 1, 1932 UNITED s AT s RICHARD KLEIN, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN HAIR GURLING DEVICE Application filed August 17, 1931'. Serial No..5 57,4=55.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a hair curling device, and has for its object the provision of a simple and inexpensive device whereby the hair may be easily and quickly curled without theap plication of heat.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this class which will be simple in structure, economical of manufacture, durable and highly eflicient in use, and
easily and quickly operated.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device whereby the ends of the hair may be easily and quickly curled.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification. and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the invention, with a part shown in section illustrating the use of the invention.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of the invention.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of an assembly illustrating the modified use of the invention. As shown in Fig. 1, the invention embodies a holding member which is formed from a single strip of resilient metal doubled upon itself to provide the pair of legs or members 9 and 10 which are substantially parallel to each other. The. end of the member 9 is turned inwardly to serve as an abutment for one edge of the yieldable pad 12 which is mounted on the member 9. It will be noted that the member 9 is longer than the member 10 so that the angularly turned end 13 of the member 10 which is tapered at its edge as at 14 may be used to clamp hair 15 onthe pad 12. This pad 12 is made from rubber or other suitable yieldable material. Vhen the'hair f is clamped between the tapered edge 14.- and the yieldable pad 12 and the device moved 5 longitudinally of the hair, the hair will be crimped or curled as at 16. An operator by clamping the hair between the engaging members and drawing the devlce longitudinally of the hair toward the ends thereof may easily and-quickly eifect a curling of the hair'without requiring the'necessity of heat and without endangering the person in any manner. In Fig. 3"I have illustrated a comb element 17 mounted on the member 10 which will serve to separate the strands of hair as the device is drawn along the hair.
I In Fig. 1 I have illustrated a slightly modilied form of the device and also its use. I provide a pair of loops 18 each of which is provided with a retaining plate 20 0n which a yieldable pad 19 is mounted. These loops are intended to be secured on the index finger 21 and thethumbQQ so. that the hair may be held by the pads 19 while the curling device is drawn longitudinally outwardly toward the ends. I provide a loop 23 having a retainpreferred forms of construction of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of structure shown, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as'new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A hair curling device of the class described, comprising: a holding portion having a pair of separable parts; a yieldable pad carried by one of said parts; and a tapered engaging portion projecting outwardly from the end of the other of said parts and movable into engagement with said pad.
2. A hair curling device of the class described. comprising: a holding portion having a pair of separable parts; a yieldable pad carried by one of said parts; a tapered engaging portion projectingoutwardly from the end of the other of said parts and movable into engagement with said pad; and a combing member carried by one of said parts.
3. A hair curling device of the class described, comprising: a holding portion having a pair of separable parts; a yi-eldable pad mounted on the end of one of said parts; an angula-rly turned portion on the other of said parts and having a tapered edge engageable With said yieldable pad.
4. A device of the class described, comprising: a strip of resilient metal doubled upon itself to provide a pair of parallel ex tending members; a yieldable pad mounted on the inner surface of one of said members; an angularly turned end on the other of said members directed toward and movable into engagement with said pad.
5. A device of the class described, comprising: a strip of resilient metal doubled upon itself to provide a pair of parallel extending members; a yieldabl'e pad mounted on the inner surface of one of said members; an angularly turned end on the other of said members directed toward and movable .into engagement with said pad; and a combing 1member mounted on said pad bearing mem- 6. A device of the class described, comprising: a strip of metal doubled upon itselfto provide a pair of legs, one of said legs proj'ecting beyond the end oft-he other; a yieldable'pad carried on the inner face of the. long er of said legs; and an a-ngu'larly turned engaging portion on the shorter of said legs movable into engagement with said pad.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing speclficatlon.
RICHARD KLEIN.
