PIN PACKAGE Filed March 5, 1929 Patented Jan. 19, 1932 Unirse srATEs PAT-ENT @met GEORGE BODEN, 0F WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, AssIGNoR To scovILi. :MANUFAC- TURING COMPANY, NECTIGUT OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CON- PIN PACKAGE Application filed March 5,
rIhis invention relates to certain improve-V ments in packages of pins adapted for use in refilling pin dispensing devices.
Certain type of pin dispensing devices,
such as that shown in United States Letters time.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a pin refill package' in Which the desired number of pins may be held suitably arranged With their heads in the same direction, of convenient size and provided With a cover held to the body of the package with a frangible member Which can be readilyT broken to permit the complete removal of the cover, a suitable tool being associated with the package for breaking the securing member.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a package in which the frangible member is provided With a guide mark to indicate the proper point at which to use the tool.
With these. and other objects not specifical ly referred to in view, the invention consists in certain novel parts, arrangements and combinations which will be described in connection With the acconupanying drawings and the novel features pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings y Figure l is a perspective view of the improved package, shown closed;
Figure 2 is a sectional view takenv on the line 2 2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a view showing hoW the tool 'l i' may be used in opening the package;
Figures 4 and 5 are views showin@ how the. c e pm package may be used to .till the pin holder.
Referring to the drawings, the improved package may vary in size, shape and material. In the' preferred form hoWever,`the
i929. serial no. Sneca.` y
package vvill include 1l and a cover 2, 'of suitable cheap material such as cardboard and circular in shape, of a'size to comfortably hold the number of pins desired; These pins are marked 3, andare' arranged as shown so that the heads lie in the same plane, so that the contents of the package, on the removal of the cover, may be bodily transferred into the pin holding compartment of the dispensing device, the package being of a diameter to permit this to be readily done.
The cover and body of the package Will be held together by afrangible member, on the disruption of Which the cove-r can be entirely removed from the package. As shown,
this frangible member is a paper label 4, which if desired may carry any suitable identifying indicia, such as a figure marked 5. This label or paster as shown unites the f body and cover and can be disrupted in any desired Way. A convenient one isthat shown in Which the package is provided With a tool Vsuch as a pin 6, removably associated therewith, as'by being stuck through the cover 2, so as to be out of the vvay When not in use.
In the best constructions embodying the invention, a guide is provided to facilitate the use of the tool in breaking the label. As shown, the label is provided with a guide line 7 by following which the label or poster is disrupted on the line of juncture of the cover and body. Y
In Figures V4 and 5 are shown how the contents of the pin holder may be bodily transferred to the pin carrier above referred to. As shown in Figure 4, after the cover is removed fom the pin package the holder is inverted over the top of the package and the position of the holder is then reversed as shown in VFigure 5 and the contents of the package vbodily transferred to the holder.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that a cheap and convenient relill package has been provided from which the pins may be readily transferred to the "l dispensing device in proper order and with no loss of time, a package which can be readilyopened and Which can be conveniently packed in quantities for shipment. While the preferred form of refill package has been shown and described, it Will be understood that certain changes and variations in the package are permissible Without departing from the invention as expressed in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A refill package of pins in Which the pins are loosely arranged With their heads in the same relative position and from which the pins may be transferred in a body to a suit-V able dispensing device comprising a body and cover, a frangible binder member securing the body and cover together, and-a tool for disrupting the binder member to permit the removal of the cover, said tool in the original packa ge having been passed through the cover and frietionally retained therein with its body portion disposed Within the package and with a part exposed for With'- drawal. 4
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set m hand.
y GEORGE BODEN.
