Be it known that I, .GUSTAVE E. W. MIL- LnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county-of Suti'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Shaving-Soap Stickand Holder, of which the following is a'specificationj The principal objects of this invention are to provide a Combined holder and soap stick in an inexpensive and easily manufactured form with a connection between them that will securely hold the stick in position but will permit the stick to: he re moved when practically used up and'a new one substituted for it,-thus eliminating the necessity of going to the 'eXp'ense of purchasing a new holder'each time a shaving stick is needed. p

I am aware of the fact that shaving sticks and holders have been-made in which the whole .thing would have'to be discarded after the stick was used up. This invention does not relate to th'attype of device.

ures, the holder involves two pieces, a bot tom 10 and a top 11, each of sheet metal. Both are made up in cup-shape form and the lower one set into the bottom of the upper one with its flange uppermost so that both ends of the holder are closed. The larger drawn metal cup has a flat end which constitutes the top of the holder and is also provided with an auxiliary circular disc 14: which is of noncorrosive metal. This disc also can be made of non-metallic material. Its principal object is to prevent corrosion of the holder.

The top of the holder and the auxiliary disc have slot 12p1eterab1y diametrically cut through them for receiving the anchor 13 which goesfthrough both of them. This anchor consistsof a piece of flat sheet metal doubled over to provide a, T-shape shank having two legs in contact through theslot 12. The legs arespread out at the bottom under thev top of the holder before the bottom'cup 10 is applied in a securely fixed position. This anchor is made of a single piece of non-corrosive metal.

The larger or upper cup which constitutesthe upper part of the holder is made with straight sides having two shoulders of different dimensions. One shoulder 15 is for receiving a guide collar 16 which slips Over the soap stick and then is screwed over a screw thread on the straight part of the cupll. The other shoulder '17 of this cup has three or more notcliesprotruding outward which actas rests or rather as feet for supporting the device. It will'be seen that the bottom of the holder consisting of the cup 10 rests with its edges against the inside of the bottom shoulder of the'outer cup "and the feet turned up against the bottom edge of this cup. The lower edge of the large cup. is pressed over the closed'endof the bottom cup 10 so that the holder issecurely closed at both ends.

The guide collar 16 screws on the holder and receives the soap stick 20 within its cylindricalnpper 'flange and fits closely against it so that the soap stick is held from tipping sideways. It does not, however, have any means for preventing the stick moving up and down, that is, toward 0% from the holder or base. It is to be noted also that it does not act as a fastener for the soap stick as it does not fasten it to thing to do with detaching the stick from the whole top. It has no holding function except to prevent side movement but it gives the soap stick and holder the necessary finish to make it attractive to the eye and it furnishes a convenient surface for handling the soap stick. It is made ofa non-corrosive metal, preferably aluminum.

The soap stick 20 .is provided with a diametrical or otherwise undercut slot 21 therein of the same shape and size as the anchor 13. This is so located that when the guide collar is removed by unscrewing it and taking it olf the end of the soap stick the latter can be removed from the holder by sliding it sideways along the anchor 13. The anchor is headed over at the top and it is received through the undercut recess to hold the soap stick against longitudinal motion away from the base or holder. Thus, the soap stick is prevented from motion in all directions when in place on the holder and when the guide collar is also in place. This constitutes an anchor for securely holding the soap stick and for guiding it off and on with a sideways motion. I

It will be understood, of course, that other forms of undercut holding devices can be employed as I have shown herein in Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 7. This construction consists simply in the provision of the top of the base or holder with a bent over arcuate flange 30 spaced from the base and extending not over half way around it. The soap stick is formed with a similarly shaped recess 31 extending the same distance around it for receiving this horizontalfiange 30 within it. It performs the same function as the T- shaped anchor shown in the other figures and substantially in the same way.

From what has been said, it will be seen that I have provided a device consisting of few parts easily made and assembled which will permit of the soap stick being placed on a base or holder by any unskilled person and permit its being placed only in one position thereon. The soap stick is securely held from motion in one direction by the anchor and from motion in the transverse direction by the guide collar. When assembled, the soap stick is used in exactly the ordinary way and when it is used up the butt of it can be removed very easily and a new one put in its place without going to the expense of buying a new holder or base. It is inexpensive and attractive and can be used on soap sticks for shaving and also for other solid sticks for various purposes,fas for medicines or the like and, in fact, it can be used for a menthol or rouge stick or for a lubricating compound in stick form and for many other purposes.

Although I have illustrated and described only two forms of the invention, I am aware of the fact that other modifications can be and anchor by a motion in a claim is 1. As an article of manufacture, a. base for holding a detachable article having a flat closed top and bottom'and provided with an anchor extending upwardly therefrom from said top and laterally projecting at its upper end for securing thearticle thereto in a position to be removed by a sliding motion along said top.

2. As an article of manufacture, a base for a soap stick or the like, comprising a sheet metal portion having a flat closed top and bottom and circular in cross-section and provided with an anchor extending upwardly therefrom from said top and laterally projecting at its upperend for securing-a soap stick thereto.

3. As an article of manufacture, a base for a soap stick or the like,'comprising a portion having a. flat closedtop and bottom and provided with an anchor extending up wardly therefrom fromsaid top for securing a soap stick thereto, said anchor having a T-shaped construction.

4. As an'article' of manufacture, a sheet metal holder comprising two cup-shaped parts, the upper part having an open-bottom and the lower part an open top and closed bottom, the lower part setting into the bottom of the'upper part, whereby said holder is closed at the bottom and top, and means on the top of said holder for detachably holding a soap stick or the like in position to move therefrom by a sidewaysdiametrical motion. As an article of manufacture a sheet metal holder comprising two cup-shaped parts, the upper part having an open bottom and the lower part an open top and closed bottom,'-the lower part setting into the bottom of the upper part, whereby said holder is closed at the bottom and top and a T-shaped anchor on the top of said holder for a soap stick or'the like having a T- shaped. slot, whereby the stick canbe supported on the holder in position to move therefrom by a sideways diametrical motion. 6. As an article of manufacture'a'holder for a soap stick having a recess near one end, comprising ananchor having an offset portion located in said recess for holding the soap stick thereon, said soap stick being capable of being detached from the holder plane parallel to the top of the holder. 7. As an article of manufacture a holder for a soap stick having a recess near one end in a plane parallel with said end, comprising an anchor having a flat ofiset portion projecting above the top thereof and located in said recess for holding the soap stick thereon, whereby said soap stick is capable of being detached from the holder and anchor by a motion in a plane parallel to the top of the holder.

8. As an article of manufacture a shaving soap stick device, comprising a base having an anchor projecting upwardly from the top thereof and provided with an overlapping top for a soap stick having an undercut recess therein for receiving said anchor and preventing the soap stick from motion directly away from said base, and means mounted on said base and overlapping the bottom of the soap stick for preventing the soap stick from being moved laterally.

9.As an aiticle of manufacture a shaving soap stick device, comprising a circular base having an anchor projecting upwardly from the top thereof and provided with an overlapping top for a soap stick having an undercut recess therein for receiving said anchor and preventing the soap stick "from moving directly away from said base, and a circular collar mounted on said base and overlapping the bottom of the soap stick for preventing the soap stick from. being moved laterally 10. The combination with a base having a flat top and an upwardly projecting anchor for a soap stick having a recess extending up into it to receive said anchor, said base being circular, of a collar screwed on the top of the base and projecting upwardly therefrom and having an interior diameter just fitting the soap stick so that the soap stick will be held frictionally therein and prevented from detachment from the base when the collar is screwed up into position.
