Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT L. GARRETT, OF ANNISTON, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,659, dated October 24, 1876; application filed February 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT L. GARRETT, of Anniston, in the county of Calhoun and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fences; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a fence, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which is a perspective view of my fence.
A A represent two short vertical posts, fastened in the ground, and connected on top by a bar or rail, B. O 0 represent a series of boards or rails, placed on one side in an inclined position against the bar orrail B, and they are held by means of a horizontal bar or rail, D, fastened to short posts E E, and bearing against the outer side of the boards G, near their lower ends. On the opposite side of the bar or rail B, near each end, is placed an inclined board or rail, G, and in the crotch formed by the upper ends of the boards 0 and G is placed a rail, H, which is preferably cut triangular, but may be of any form desired.
This fence is cheaply and quickly made, and can be built of material that could not be used in ordinary fencing. When properly put up, it is strong and durable, and not liable to be blown down.
Having thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the posts A A and E E, the horizontal bars or rails B D, the inclined boards 0 and G, and top rail H, all constructed substantiallyas and for the purposes herein set forth.
ROBT. L. GARRETT.
