Description

T. OLIVER.
FENCE. No.184,893. Patented Nov.28,1876.
.QZITN I 3 ES I I v ATTORNEYS- Nv PETERS. PHOTO-UTHOGRAPEER. WASHINGTON. D. C-
' I NITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
TILMON J. OLIVER, OF J AOKSON TENNESSEE.
IMPROVEMENT m FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,893, dated November 28, 1876; application filed October 18, 1876.
To all whom't't may concern:
. Be it known that I, TILMON J. OLIVER, of J ackson, in the county of Madison and in the State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Constructing Fences and do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompa' nying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a fence, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse section of my fence through line w a: of Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
Each fencepost in my fence is composed of two inclined posts, A A, crossing and halved into each other. To these posts are secured a number of horizontal cross-bars, B B, at suitable distances apart. In the center to these cross-bars are secured two upright bars, 0 O, a sufficient distance apart to admit the ends of the bars or rails D D, which rest upon the horizontal cross-bars B. The ends of these bars or rails D are cut with shoulders or offsets a to overlap each other. In the forks of the inclined posts A is laid another bar or rail, E, having its ends also halved or shouldered to form the joint with the next panel. 7
Having thus fully'described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the inclined posts A A, halved into each other, the horizontal bars B B, upright center-bars G O, and the bars or rails D D and rider E, having their ends halved to overlap those belonging to the adjoining panel, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of April, 1876.
'1. J. OLIVER.
