This invention relates to lipstick holders, and has for an object to provide an improved construction which may be made of a convenient size and which may be readily operated at the same time for ejecting or withdrawin a lipstick.

Anotfi vide a lipstick holder within a supporting sleeve which is grooved to receive a projection from a suitable cup carrying the lipstick, whereby as the sleeve is rotated the cup and lipstick may be propelled upwardly or inwardly.

A still further object, more specifically, is to provide a lipstick formed of comparatively thin sheet metal with a cup having a pressed-out pin or projection, a slotted supporting body and a grooved sleeve, the provision and arrangement of these parts being such that when the body is rotated the rojection from the cup will be forced a ong the groove in the sleeve for'propelhng the cup inwardly or outwardly accordlng to the direction of rotation.

From Figures 2- and 4 it will be noted that the body 1 is provided with a straight slot 5, and through this slot extends a projecting finger 6. Preferably this projection is: forced from the side walls of the cup 7, which cup normally supports the lipstick 8. If preferred, a pin or other member could be substituted for the finger 6, but preferably the finger 6 is used, as it may be readily forced from the walls of cup 7. Arranged exteriorly of the body 1 is a sleeve 9 which is rotatably mounted between the bottom 3 and the turned-over top flange 10. Sleeve 9 is provided with a pressed-out spiral portion 11 which forms a spiral groove interiorly, and into this spiral groove fits part of the finger or projection 6, as shown in Figure 2. A cap 12 isshown as slidably fitting over the upper end of the sleeve 9 but, if desired, this cap could be hinged in place without departing from the spirit of the invention. In operation after. the parts have been assembled a lipstick 8 is forced into the cup 7 and then the cup 7 is moved to its lowermost position, as shown in Figure 2, unless already in this position. When the parts are as shown in Figure2 and it is desired to use the lipstick cap 12 is removed and sleeve 9 grasped with u one hand, While the other hand rotates the base 3. As base 3 is rigidly connected with body 1, this will cause the rotation of body 1 and consequently move the cup 7 and'lipstick 8 upwardly, or rather, outwardly, so that the desired amount of lipstick 8 will project beyondbody 1. It will be noted that ward the bottom of the holder. It will thus be seen that a minimum number of parts have been used and yet the lipstick is properly protected and moves in and out, as desired.

In Figures 6 to 8 inclusive a modified form of the invention is shown wherein the sleeve or outer casing 9 is rovided with an inwardly-extending portion 11, said inwardly-extending portion being a spiral so as to present a spiral guide extending preferably from near the top to near-the bottom of the shell. If preferred, the guide 11 could extend to the top and bottom, as is true of the groove formation shown in Figure 1.

In connection with Figure 1 it will be notedthat the groove formation is provided with an offset or shoulder 12 providing a rest for the finger or pin 6. In the construction shown in Figure 6 an article carrier 7' is used having an out-turned finger or section 6' formed with an opening or notch 13 which straddles the guide or internal bead 11, as shown particularly in Figure 7. The finger 6' extends through the straight slot 14 similarly to finger 6 illustrated in Figure 5. In both forms of the invention there is provided an article carrier having a projecting finger, pin or other member which coacts with'a guide carried by the outer sleeve or casing 9 or 9. In this way by rotating the tubular member 1 or the tubular member 15 a longitudinal movement of the article carrier will be produced.

What I claim is v 1. A lipstick holder, comprising a sleeve having an interior spiral bead acting as guide, a tubular body mounted in said sleeve and provided with a straight slot extending from near one end to near the opposite end, an article carrier mounted within said body, and means carried by the article carrier positioned to project through said straight slot and straddle said guide, whereby upon the rotation'of the tubular body in one direction the article carrier will be projected from the carrier and When rotated in the opposite direction the article carrier will be withdrawnto a position within the container.

A lipstick holder, comprising a tubular body having a longitudinallypositioned slot extending from near one end to near the opposite end thereof, a bottom frictionally secured to one end of said body,-a tubular sleeve 4 rotatably mounted on the outside of said body, said sleeve having a spiral bead formed on the inner surface thereof, sald body having a turned-over end overlapping said sleeve so as to hold the sleeve between the turnedover end and said bottom while allowing the sleeve to freely rot-ate, and ar article carrying member mounted in said body and provided with forked means projecting through said slot in said body into straddling engagement with said bead.

A lipstick holder, including an article carrier, a tubular member acting as a guide for said article carrier said tubular member having a straight longitudinal slot extendin from near one end to near the opposite end and a second tubular member surrounding the first mentioned tubular member formed with a spiral projection, said article carrier having means extending through said slot straddling said spiral projection, whereby when said second tubular member is rotated said article carrier will be moved longitudinally of the first-mentioned tubular member.

A lipstick holder, including a container provided with a spiral guide extending inwardly,- a body arranged in the container provided With a straight slot and an article carrier mounted in said body provided with means extending through said straight slot into sliding straddling engagement with said guide, whereby upon the rotation of said body and the non-rotation of said containensaid carrier will be propelled longitudinally of the body i 6.
