entree stares SAMUEL N. HOPE, OF,WAUWATOSA, WISCONSIN,iLASSIGNOR GBILEFI'II-LHOPE COM IPANY, OF WEST ALLIS, WISCONSIN, ACORPORATION OE WISCONSIN OARDHOLDEB Application filed June 1, 1931. serial 541,378. i h v nner themed-holding an; is this mount-1' The invention relates to card holders and has for an object the provision of a simple, inexpensive and compact holder adapted to be mounted on the instrument board of an automobile and including a rotatably mounted transparent card container for protecting and displaying a registration card therein, the holder being constructed to permit sealing for deterring unauthorized access to the card.
The invention further consists in the sev-' nates a sheet metal frame having a flat narrow base portion 11 and laterally extending parallel ears 12 formed integrally therewith and constituting end walls. The base portion 11 is adapted to abut against an instrument panel 13 of an automobile and is secured thereto by screws 14:.
A tube 15 of resilient transparent material, such as celluloid, extends between the end walls 12 of the holder-frame and has its end portions rotatably mounted between pairs of spaced inturned arcuate flanges 16 which-are integrally formed on the respective end walls and which engage the exterior surface of the tube. The transparent tube receives therein a rolled card 17 which in the present instance is indicated to be an automobile registration card. The rolled card, after insertion into the tube, remains in engagement with the inner surface of the tube, as seen in Fig. 4. The tube is installed or removed by compressing it diametrically so that it will pass between the spaced flanges 16. The tube, after insertion, returns to its cylindrical shape and fits against the inner faces ofv the flanges I the other end is provided with a slot 21, which l is adapted to receive a seal 22, thus preventing-removal of the key and card-receiving tube except by breaking the seal. The seal may bear, thereon a number corresponding to the registration number of the automobile, if this is required by law. If a seal is not required the seal and key may be omitted.
By reasonof its compact construction the holder requires only a small space on the instrument panel or other support on which it is mounted, while the card may be readily examined by rotating the transparent tube.
hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A card holder comprising a frame including spaced walls having bearing surfaces thereon, a transparent card-receiving tube extending between. said walls and rotatably mounted on said bearing surfaces, and a key extending through said Walls and within said tube and having a seal-receiving opening .at one end.
2. A card holder comprising a frame having a base portion and a pair of spaced end walls, a pair of spaced inturned arcuate flanges formed on each of said end walls, and a resilient transparent card-receiving tube extending between said end Walls and rotatably mounted on said arcuate flanges, said tube beingdiametrically compressible to pass between said flanges.-
3. A card holder comprising a frame having a base portion and a pair of spaced end walls having aligned slots therein, inturned arcuate flanges formed on said end walls, a
transparent card-receiving tube extending between said end walls and rotatably bearing integrally formed on said ears, and a trans- 7 parent card-receiving tube extending between able to permit its application to'said bearing surfaces. I
6. A card holder comprlsin-g a frame having a base portion and a pair of spaced end walls, inturned arcuate' flanges formed on said end walls, the flanges on at least one of said end wallsbeing discontinuous to present a gap, and a resilient transparent card-receiving tube extending between said end walls 1 and rotatably mountedon said flanges, said 7 tube being deformable to pass through said In'testi'inony whereof, I aflix my signature.
