Description

April 20, 1943. L. HOPP PRICE TICKET MOLDING Filed Sept. 18, 1941 50 Ho i-2 p63 INVENTOR.
ATTORZVTE'YS.
tor, the numeral H! designates a shelf or Patented Apr. 20, 1943 2,317,192 YR-ECE TICKET MOLDING Leo Harp, New York, N. Y.
Application September 18,
1941, Serial No. 411,334
3 Claims. (01. 40-46) This invention relates to price ticket holders and similar devices and more particularly, it pertains to price ticket holders commonly known as the shelf molding type.
Shelf moldings have formed from Wood or sheet metal and it is one object of the present invention to provide a shelf molding of a construction which lends itself to the use of plastic materials from which the molding may be formed by the well known extrusion methods It is another object of the invention to provide a novel protector or guard for price ticket moldings, the protector or guard also being so constructed asto prevent unauthorized tampering with the price tickets carried by the molding.
It is another object of the invention to provide a novel construction whereby, although the protector or guard is securely retained against unauthorized persons, it may readily be removed for the purpose of placing the price tickets in position by persons so authorized to do.
With the above and other objects in view, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein the invention has been illustrated in its preferred forms and in which;
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a price ticket molding constructed in accordance with the present invention, in operating position upon the front edge of a store shelf or similar structure,
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view on an enlarged scale taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a similar view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view on an enlarged scale illustrating the manner in which the protector or guard is removed from the price ticket, and;
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating a slightly modified form of the invention.
Referring to the drawing by reference characsuitable similar support.
The molding proper l2 having a retaining each side thereof.
Each retaining flange disposed at right angles to the body portion [2 and a second wall 18 disposed in parallel relation with the body portion Ill and spaced therefrom.
This construction provides two channels 20 comprises a body portion flange l4 extending along heretofore generally been l4 consists of a wall 16 tickets 30, a price and 2|, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
The body portion also has two parallel channels 24 extending lengthwise of the body portion l2 and formed by projecting ribs 26 and 28, which are formed integral with the body portion l2 and lie at points between the retaining flanges M.
The grooves or channels 24 provide means for receiving the edges of price tickets such as 30 to retain the price tickets in display position in the molding as illustrated in Figure l.
The retaining flanges are employed to retain in position in overlying relation to the price ticket protector 32. This price ticket protector is of arcuate cross sectional form and is also rigid in character. On one of its edges, it is provided with one or more notches 35, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
By reference to Figures 2, 3 and 4, it will be noted that the channel 20, which preferably forms the upper side of the molding when it is in operative position, is of greater depth than is the channel 2!. It will also be noted by reference to said figures that the transverse dimension of the price ticket protector 32 is less than the distance between the two walls iii of the retaining flanges 14.
As heretofore stated, the price ticket protector 32 is a rigid element and it can not therefore be sprung into place as can the price tickets which are preferably formed from a flexible material.
The protector 32 in its operative position overlies the price tickets in operative relation thereto, as best illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, it being held in this spaced relation to the price tickets by means of the outer ribs 23 of the price ticket channels 24.
To place the protector in position, there is a notched edge which is placed within the channel 20 and moved upwardly or against the wall 16 thereof, in which position it is illustrated in Figure 4. With the protector 32 in this position, its other edge will move clear of the free edge of the wall [8 of the channel 2| to a position where it may drop freely behind said wall in which position it is illustrated in both Figures 2 and 3. By reference to said Figures 2 and 3, it will be noted that while the transverse dimension of the protector 32 is less than the distance between the two walls iii of the channels 20 and 2|, said transverse dimension is still great enough to retain the notched edge of the protector behind the wall N3 of the channel 20, thereby retaining the protector in position to cover the price tickets and, at the same time, rendering the operation of placing the protector in operative position and removing it therefrom, a relatively simple matter.
bodiment of the invention, 40 which passes through the wall l8 of the channel 29 as at 42, through an opening in the body portion of the molding as at 44 and into threaded engagement with the shelf or support It]. By reference to Figure 3, it will be noted that in placing the securing screw 40 in position, the protector 32 is so positioned as to engage or lie within a notch 36 of the price ticket protector and thus prevent movement of the protector either longitudinally of transversely of the molding with the consequence that without removal of the screw 40, the protector can not be removed nor can access to the price tickets 30 be had. By reference to Figure 1, it will be noted that the screw 48 is of special type, requiring a special type of screw-driver to operate and can be removed only by persons holding the proper type of tool.
In the modified form of the invention illustrated in Figure 5, the molding comprises a main body portion 56, having two price ticket receiv ing channels 52, and between each of the price ticket receiving channels 52 there are channels 54. These channels 54 provided means for slida rigid transparent side edges 58 for reception in the channels 54.
In this last described form of the invention, the protector or guard 56 is of such transversed dimension as to prevent the removal of its beveled edges from the channels 54 except by a sliding or endwise movement of the protector or guard. In this form of the invention, the protector or guard 56 may be secured in position by means of a screw not shown at either or both of its ends.
The molding may be secured in operative position upon the front edge of the shelf by means of a screw or the like 60 which passes through an opening, preferably along the longitudinal center of the molding.
The molding and the protector or guard are to form them.
Forthe molding per s e, any type of plastic which will set to rigid form may be employed while for the protector or guard, it will be understood that plastic which sets rigid and has transparent characteristics will be employed.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a new and novel price ticket molding which may be readily manufactured, which may be simply operated, and which will, at all times prevent access to the price tickets except by authorized persons.
While in the present instance, the invention type described comprising body portion of elongated carried by the retaining flanges, said price ticket protector being of arcuate cross-sectional form and of a transverse dimension to retained in poand means for securing the price from the moldsition thereby, ticket protector against removal mg 2. A molding of the type described comprising a main body portion of elongated form, a retaining flange extending along each side edge of the body portion to form channels for the reception of the side edges of a price ticket, protector, one of which channels is of greater depth than the other, a plurality of price ticket channels extend-' ing longitudinally of the body portion within the retaining flanges, a price ticket protector adapted to be retained in position by said retaining flanges, said protector comprising a respective retaining flange to position at the rear thereof and yet be retained in position by both of said retaining flanges, and means for securing the protector against movement relatively to the body portion of the molding.
3. A molding of the type described comprising a main body portionof elongated form, aretaining flange extending alongeach side edge of the body portion to form channels for the reception of the side edges of a price ticket protector, one of which channels is of greater depth than the other, a plurality of price ticket channels extending longitudinally of the body portion at points flanges, a price ticket prosecuring the protector against movement relatively to the molding.
