No. 662,162 Int. Cl. G09f 3/18 U.S. Cl. 40-16 3 Claims ABSTRACT F THE DISCLOSURE A card and a card holder securable on the door jamb of an automotive vehicle for purpose of recording thereupon the maintenance service periodically made upon the vehicle.
This invention relates generally to automotive accessories. More specifically it relates to means for recording the periodic maintenance services made upon a vehicle.
A principal object of 4the present invention is to provide an improved card and card holder to be secured to an automotive vehicle and which will readily indicate to all parties concerned the nature of the maintenance service and when it was last applied to the vehicle.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved card and card holder -for an automotive vehicle which can be readily fitted and secured against the door jamb where it may be readily seen by the driver or service station mechanic.
Yet a further object of the present invention is to provide an improved card and card holder which is moisture proof.
Still a further object of the present invention is to provide a holder for the card which is transparent so that the motorist or mechanic may be able to see therethrough and read the text upon the card supported within the holder.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a moisture proof, oil and lube plastic tab holder which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and eliicient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the 1following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention shown mounted upon a door jamb of an automotive vehcle;
FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the present invention; and
FIG. 5 is a rear perspective view of a slidable unit shown in FIG. 4 of the drawing.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, reference num eral v` represents a moisture proof oil and lube plastic tab holder, according to the present invention, wherein there is a holder 11 to which there is a slidable card unit 12.
lOne form of the invention, as is illustrated in FIGS. l to 3 of the drawing, is designed for being applied to the door jamb 13 of existing automotive vehicles. The holder 11 comprises a generally flat, rectangular container made preferably from transparent material such as transparent plastic or the like, the holder having a front side 14 through which a person may view the card unit contained therewithin, a rear wall 15 to which adhesive 16 may be secured for purpose of applying against the door jamb 13, thus fastening Ithe device to the automotive vehicle. The holder is further provided with upper and lower edge i 2 walls 17 and -18 as well as an end wall 19, the opposite end of the holder having an opening 20 for receiving therein the card unit 12.
The card unit includes a tab holder 21 having a frnt portion 22 and a sidewardly extending tab portion 23. The front portion 22 includes a central slot 24 into which a card 25 is receivable, the card having various text 26 imprinted upon the front side thereof such as the names of the various maintenance services together with a space indicating the date or mileage at which time such service has been performed upon the vehicle.
In operative use the card unit 12 is removed from the holder 11 and the garage mechanic then removes the card 25 from the tab holder 21, the mechanic then writing upon 4the card 25 the date or mileage in the'proper places to indicate the nature of the maintenance service that was performed. Thereafter the card is again placed into the tab holder which is then reinserted into the member 11.
In FIGS. 4 and 5 a modified form of the invention is shown wherein the present device is designed for being incorporated into the construction of new vehicles and wherein the door jamb 30 is provided with a groove 31 into which a case 32, made preferably .from see through steel that is clear as glass and unbreakable, is fitted with the front side 33 thereof being flush with the face of the door jamb 30 as shown in FIG. 4 of the drawing. The case includes a front wall 33, rear wall 34, top and bottom edge walls 35 and one end wall 36, the opposite end having an opening 37 for purpose of receiving tab holder 38 which contains a card 39 therewithin. A tab holder 38 is of right angle configuration having a front panel 39 and a side panel 40 forming a tab for conveniently grasping the same when removing it from the case. The front wall 39 of the tab holder is provided with a central pocket therewithin, into which the card 41 is slideable, the rear side of the wall 39 having a notch 42 for purpose of allowing a persons finger to readily grasp the card when attempting to remove the same therefrom. The Card 41 is like Ithe card 25, and contains a like text to indicate the maintenance services performed upon the automotive vehicle.
Thus there has been shown a form of the invention which is applicable to existing automotive vehicles and another form which may be readily incorporated in the constructional design of new vehicles.
While various changes may be made in the detailed construction it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A moisture-proof device for keeping records of maintenance service upon an automobile comprising:
a fiat transparent case having three hermetically sealed edges and one open edge,
a fiat flexible transparent card holder -for mating watertight within said case having three hermetically sealed edges and one open edge,
a flexible card for recording information and insertable within said holder,
means for aixing said case to an automobile door so disposed as to have said open edge facing into said automobile, normal to the door thereof, and aligned with the inner edge of said door.
2. A moisture-proof device according to claim 1, which further includes a tab of transparent material yforming a right angle extension to said card holder whereby removal of said holder is facilitated when said holder is inserted within said case.
3. A moisture-proof device according to claim 2, wherein said means for afiixing said case to an automobile is an adhesive.
