PATENT OFFICE THOMAS cam: once, or Inn-1m, ALBERTA, CANADA arren Application filed November 30, 1929. Seriail No. 410,768.
The invention relates to new and useful improvements in brushes and more particularly to a fountain brush which is spontaneously supplied with the liquid or solution from an attached container in a continuous stream.
.A further object is in the provision of a fountain brush of' the character described having a-valve for controlling the flow of liquid to the brush.
A" yet further object is in the provision of a fountain brush of the character described having a pump associated with the container for to create a pressure therein to effect a vpressure to the liquid or solution within the container in a manner to stimulate the discharge. I
Yet another object is in the provisionof a fountain-brush of the character described having a series of discharge jets arranged to discharge the liquid into the hairs of the brush and spaced atintervals across the entire width of the brush in amanner' to permit even distribution of the liquid.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages will be readily appreciated as the invention becomes better understood from a consideration of the illustrative'embodiment of the same and for which purpose such descriptive drawings have benhereto appended, wherein- 7 Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fountain-brush embodying the rudiments of this invention, and
Figure 2 is-a top plan view of the brush with parts broken away.
Referring now more-in detail to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designatethe corresponding parts throughout the illustration,
It will be seen that the brush is .provided with a head Awhichis composed of two portions 6 and 7 which adjoin. The portion-6 carries thehairs Sfof the brush in its outer face and has slotted clips 9 projectingtherefrom beyondits inner face 10 in a manner to embrace the adjoined portion 7. This por- .tion 7 has a channel 12 extending crosswise thereof and produced in its inner face 11 which face'ineets the inner face of the adjoined section 6. A handle 13 is associated with portion 7 and has an elongated orifice 14 '12 which is disposed in transverse relation thereto. Threaded bolts 15 extend through 11, being spaced to align with the slotted clips 9 of the adjoining portion 6 to engage in the slots and receive the threaded thumb screws 16 thereon to com ress the clips and causethem to firmly em race the adjoined portion. A pipe-conduit 17 having screwcaps 18 attached to each end is embedded Within the channel 12 with the caps disposed just to the exterior of the adjoined portions of the head A in a manner to be removable to permit cleaning of the conduit. This pipeconduit has an interconnected shank-portion 18 lateral-1y extending therefrom in a manner to extend through the orifice 14 within the handle of the brush and project slightly therebeyond, having threads 19 produced on the projecting end. A series of spouts 20 are interconnected with the pipe conduit 17 and. laterally extend therefrom in an oppositedirection from the shank portion 18. These spouts are spaced at equal distances throhghout the length of the conduit and extend through a series of orifices produced within the adjoined portion 6, projecting just beyond the outer face of that portion, to terminate and discharge within the mass of hairs8. A valve 21 is interconnected with the shank portion 18 and laterally extends therefrom in a manner to outstand beyond the face of the adjoined section 7. This valve is operated by a suitable handle 22 which is disposed adjacent the handles of the brush 'portion 7 and are disposed near its inner face I v 13 to facilitate operation by the thumb of the operator in controlling the flow of liquid. through the shank to the conduit and spouts.
Associated with the brush is a container 23 provided with suitable loops 24 for to receive a strap or the like therethrough for carrying purposes and also hooks 25 upon which the brushes may be hung when not in use,-'a n opening 26 is'produced in the top of the container and is provided with a cap 27 for closure purposes. 4
.Several conduits 28 depending within the container with their lower open ends lying near the base and their upper 0 en ends extending slightl above the top 0 the container and provided with caps29 for closure means. A pump is associated with the container being mount'ed'therein havin its u perportion outstand beyond the wa of 't e container and provided with a handle 30 for operating purposes. I I v A hose 31'is connected b its one endto one of the conduits 28 and 'y its other end to? the projecting'portion of shank 18 and interconnected brush.
In'o eration it will be seen that in operating the improved device, the liquid or substance to be spread is poured into the con,- 29 tainer, through opening 26 until reasonably filled. Then the hose '31 and interconnected brush are attached to the extending upper end I of-one of the several conduits 28. Pressure is then created within the container by; op-
i erating pump 32 which pressure stimulates the discharge of the liquid from the container to the brush, which liquid discharges through the spouts 20 into the mass of halrs 8 as the valve 21 is operated by the operator.
It will be obvious from the foregoing de- 1' scription thatthis invention comprises importantvimprovements in fountain brushes, and while the preferred embodiments have a V been disclosed yetit is to be understood that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of the cooperating elements may be resorted to within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. 7
What I claim 1 A fountainbrush comprising a head composed of separable sections, bristles mounted in one section of the head, a handle formed -integral with the other section of the head, a conduit extending longitudinally. through said handle, a secondconduit embedded in the handle section of the head and extending longitudinally thereof, at right angles to said first conduit and communicating therewith, screw caps closing the ends of said second conduit, a manually controlled valve interposed in said first conduit, discharge spouts extending from said second conduit at spaced intervals throughout its length, adapted to extend into the bristle section of the head when the sections are joined, bifurcated clips extending from said bristle section in overlapping relation to said handle section, and clamping bolts assing through said handle section adapted to operably-engage with said bifurcated clips to secure said sections of the head together; In testimony whereof I afiix 111 Si ature.
