IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-THlMBLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182.890, dated October 3, 1876; application filed August 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAML. CHARD, of Mianus, in the county of Fairfield, and in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thimbles; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists of providing an ordinary sewing-thimble with a cutter rigidly attached on its end, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Figure l in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, shows a perspective view of a thimble with my cutter attached. Fig. 2 represents an enlarged View of the cutter on the end and side of the thimble.
A represents an ordinary thimble with a closed end, such as ladies commonly use in sewing. Rigidly connected to one side of the thiinble at the end is a small cutter, B, which is intended for ripping and taking out basting-threads, and for use in many other ways by the person sewing, instead of resorting to the use of scissors, as is the usual custom.
This cutter may be used on an open-end as well as on a closed-end thimble, and is formed with the thimble when it is made, or afterward rigidly attached thereto.
I do not claim a thimble having a sliding knife attached to its side, which is adjusted and held thereto by set-screws, as such is not my invention.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cutter B, rigidly attached to the top end of a thimble, substantially as set forth.
