Description

Sept. '15, 1931. E, BRYANT 7 1,823,253
TOILET DEVICE Filed March 28, 1930 Patentedv Sept. 15, 1931 PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH ELMER BRYANT, DE LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA TOILET DEVICE I Application filed March 28, 1930. Serial No. 439,767.
This invention relates to a toilet device for use by barbers and others for applying talcum powder, etc.,'to the skin and for blowing air against the skin and hair for the purpose of drying it. I I
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the 'pre cise embodiment of the invention disclosed herein may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. is In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings 7 Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the nozzle portion thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged section on line 3-3, Figure 2.
Figure 4 is an enlarged section on line 4l4, Figure 2. V j Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a container in the form of a can or the like one end of which can be closed by ar-screw cap 2. v
A tubular nozzle 3 is secured along a portion of the container and merges into a tubular stem 4 which projects from a valved rubber bulb 5 or any other suitable means adopted to force air along the stem 4 and through the nozzle 3.
An outlet 6 is formed in the container v1 and nozzle 3 and extending across this outlet is a tubular valve 7 open at both ends. One end of this valve projects beyond the nozzle 3 and can be provided with an annular enlargement 8 whereby it can be rotated readily.
The valve has an opening 9 adapted to move into and out of register with the outlet 6 when the valve 7 is rotated.
For the purpose'o-f limiting the rotation of the valve any suitable means can be used. For example, a groove 10 can be extended around the valve and into this groove there may be extended a projection 11 extending inwardly from the nozzle 3.
In practice valve 7 is turned in one direction by means of the finger piece or enlargement 8 so as to close the outlet 6. lhe cap 2 is removed and the container 1 is partly or entirely filled with the powder to be dusted onto the skin.
When it is desired to use the article for drying purposes the valve 7 is left in its closed position and by successively compressing and releasing the bulb 5, a jet of air will be delivered through the tubular nozzle and will act to dry the surface with which it comes in contact. Thus the article will constitute eiiicient means for drying the hair or the skin.
When it is desired to dust the powder onto the skin the valve 7 is rotated so as to bring the opening 9 into communication with the outlet 6. Consequently when the bulb 5 is actuated as before explained the jet of air forced thereby into the nozzle 3 and valve 7 wiil carry the powder therewith and deliver it from the valve and onto the surface being treated.
What is claimed is:
An article of the class described including a container having an outlet, a nozzle fixedly connected to and extending along the outside of the container, said nozzle having an inlet in constant communication with the outlet of the container, air forcing means connected to one end of the nozzle, the other end thereof being open, a tubular valve having open ends, said valve being mounted for rotation in the nozzle and having one end projecting beyond the open end of the nozzle, means on said projecting end for rotating the valve in the nozzle, there being an opening in the valve movable into and out of register with the opening in the nozzle and container to 25 j r i,823,25
control the flow of material into the valve from the container, and cooperating means on the nozzle and valve for stopping the rotation of the valve in either direction when the container is in communication with the valve and when communication between the valve and container is completely cut oil, respectively.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
