APPLICATOR FOR PRESSURIZED CONTAINER Filed Aug. 2, 1960 IN VEN TOR.

irme/vg 3,028,868 APPLICATOR FOR PRESSU'RIZED CONTAINER Adolph Tandler, Jr., Searchlight, Nev. (479 Chenery St, Apt. 4, San Francisco, Calif.) Filed Aug. 2, 1960, Ser. No. 47,112 2 Ciaims. (Cl. 13280) My present invention relates to pressurized shaving cream dispensing containers and more particularly to an applicator for use with such container by which a shaving cream discharged therefrom may be spread over the surface to be shaved in a convenient manner.
An object of the invention is to provide a detachable applicator which may be applied to a pressurized dispensing container and in proper register with the discharge orifice thereof so that when cream is extruded at said orifice it will be spread by a-roller type applicator that is rotatably mounted substantially in alignment with the axis of said orifice.
In the dispensing of shaving creams and like substances 20 further object of the invention to provide a means by 30 which shaving creams carried by a pressurized container may be applied to the face in a convenient, practical and economical manner.
Other objects and advantages will be in part evident to those skilled in the art and in part pointed out hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein there is shown by way of illustration and not of limitation a preferred embodiment of the invention.
In the drawing, wherein like numerals refer to like 0 parts throughout the several views:
FIGURE 1 is a fragmentary side view showing my invention as applied to a conventional pressurized container,
FIGURE 2 is a front view of the device as shown in FIGURE 1,
FIGURE 3 is a top View of the device as shown in FIGURE 1,
FIGURE 4- is a sectional view taken along line i-4 Of FIGURE 3, looking in direction of arrows, and
FIGURE 5 is a top view showing a modified form of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing I show an applicator constructed in accordance with the invention as applied to a pressurized shaving cream container, designated by the numeral 10. This container 10 has an upwardly bowed and reduced end closure 11 which carries a plastic cap 12 that has a valve with an exposed operating button 13 at the top thereof. At the side of the cap 12 there is also a discharge spout or orifice 14 through which shaving cream is extruded when the valve operating button 13 is pressed.
At the present time, with a pressurized container 10 of this type it is necessary for the user, after extruding the desired amount of shaving cream from the spout or the orifice 14, to spread the cream over the face with the fingers. This often becomes quite messy and in addition a considerable amount of the cream is wasted on the fingers where it must be washed off before the shaving operation can proceed.
To remedy this and provide a more practical and improved arrangement I have shown in the drawing a novel device which may be detachably or permanently applied to the cap 12 of the container 10. "This device is in the said roller is passed over the surface to which the shaving Fatented Apr. 10, 1962 form of a yoke 15 of plastic or other material having two spaced tangentially extending arms 16 which carry a transversely extending shaft 17 upon which a roller type applicator 13 is rotatably mounted. .When the yoke 15 is positioned upon the cap 12, as illustrated in the drawings, the roller 18 will be disposed in a position where it will pick up the extruded cream and spread it over the face of the user as the valve operating button is pressed. To accommodate the nozzle or orifice 14 the inner portion 19 of the yoke 15 is notched out as at 20 so that the shaft 18 will be disposed substantially in alignment with the nozzle 14.
In FIGURE 5 of the drawing there is shown amodified form of the invention in which a roller 21 of spherical form is mounted upon the shaft 17 between the parallel tangentially extending arms 16 of the yoke 15. The rollers 18 and 21 may be of any suitable material. In practice, however, I have found that a soft, fine textured sponge rubber makes a very good cream spreading material which is soft and most satisfactory.
While I have, for the sake of clearness and in order to disclose my invention so that the same can be readly understood, described and illustrated a specific form and arrangement, I desire to have it understood that this invention is not limited to the specific form disclosed, but may be embodied in other Ways that will suggest themselves to persons skilled in the art. It is believed that this invention is new and all such changes as come within the scope of the appended claims are to be considered as part of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In an applicator for a pressurized dispensing container for shaving cream and the like having a cylindrical closure cap with a radially extending outlet port at one side, the combination of a yoke having a cylindrical cap encircling portion and two arms extending tangentiallyin spaced parallel relation from opposite sides of the cap encircling portion of said yoke, a cylindrical absorbent roller mounted for rotation between said arms and in outwardly spaced relation to the outlet port of said container cap,
said yoke having a notch between said extending arms for positioning said roller in alignment with outlet port of said cap, whereby cream discharged at the outlet port of said cap will be projected onto said roller for application to the face of a user with a rolling action.
2. In combination with a pressurized shaving cream arms extending tangentially in spaced parallel relationfrom opposite sides of said collar, and a roller type applicator rotatably mounted between said arms and in outwardly spaced alignment with the discharge nozzle carried by said cap, whereby shaving. cream extruded from said discharge nozzle under the control of said valve operating means will be projected upon said roller for distribution over the face of a user with a rolling action as cream is to be applied.
