SPRAYER NOZZLE.
Application ledlune vS, 192,0. Serial No. 337,283. i ik To all whom t may concern: y
Be it known that I, Grimani.' JosEPi-r CnesinY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, in the county ot Dal/rota and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Sprayer Nozzle, of which the following is a speciiication.
The device forming the subject matter of this invention is a nozzle.
The object of the invention is to improve the valve which controls the passage of liquid through the nozzle.
It is within the province of the disclosur to improve generally and to enhance the utility ot devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangementof parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment et the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention,
ln the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in longitudinal section, a nozzle constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a plan or' the nozzle; Figure 3 is a plan of the valve; Figure et is a cross section on the line i-tof Figure 1; and Figure 5 is a diagrammatic side elevation, showing the spring strip as the same appears before it is compressed.
The nozzle embodying this invention includes a body 1 having a neck 2. A head 3 is provided which may be of any desired construction.
In the body 1 there is formed a bore 20 provided at its forward end with a conical seat 21 communicating with a reduced duct 22 opening into an enlarged passage 23 of less diameter than the bore 20, and provided with a iiared mouth 24 discharging into the head 3. A nipple 25 is threaded into the rear end of the bore 2O and is adapted at 26 in any suitable way, to hold a hose (not shown). The body'l is prol vided with an elongated slot 27 communieating with the bore 20, there being an opening 28 in the body, to the rear of the slot. A valve 29, in the form of a rod, is mountedfor reciprocation in the bore 2O and is provided with a point 30 adapted to cooperate with the seat 21. Longitudinal grooves 31 extendk they full length .of the valve 29," up to the point 30,the grooves 31 being straight from end tol end.
A closure piece 32 is mounted on the body 1 and serves to prevent the liquid from iinding its way from the bore 2O outwardly through the slot 2'?. The closure piece 32 is preferably made of iiber or other water proof material and has a slot 33 located to the rear of the slot 27 in thebody 1. A spring strip Si is mounted on the closure piece 82, the spring strip 34h being curved or otherwise formed, to fashion aboss 35 at the forward end of the strip. The spring strip Si is provided with a slot 36 coinciding with the slot 33 of the closure piece 32. A securing element 37, such as a screw, passes through the slot 36 or the spring strip Sfiand through the slot 33 ot the closure piece 32, the securing element being mounted in the opening 28 of the body 1. rlhe securing element 37 holds the closure piece 32 and the spring strip Se on the body 1 for right line recipev rocation. A connecting element 3S, such as a screw, passes through the spring strip 84 and the closure piece 32 and is mounted at its inner' end in the valve 29, the connecting element being located in the slot 27 of the body 1. .The connecting element 38 lconnects the valve 29 with the parts 32 and 3i in such a way that when the said parts are reciprocated by means of the boss 35, the points 30 of the valve may be moved toward and away from the seat 21, thereby to regulate the ilow of liquid through the nozzle. As shown in Figure 5 of the drawings, the spring strip 3e' is originally bowed but is pressed fiat bythe action of the screw .38, the closure piece 32 thus being held down securely on the body 1, to prevent. a leakage oi liquid through the slot 27 in the body.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed isr- 1. ln a device of the class described, a body provided with abore, there being a tapered seat at theorward end of the bore; a valve mounted for reciprocation in the bore and adapted to cooperate with the seat, the valve having a longitudinal groove which is closed by the seat when the valve is advanced; and longitudinally sliding means for manipulating the valve from a point external to the body.
2. A nozzle comprising a body having sure and the spring strip With the booly,
the closure and the strip being slotted to receive the securing element and to permit a, reeprocaton of the strip and the closure. ntestmony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto efxed my sgnature in Jche presence of two Witnesses. GABRIEL J. CASSIDY. VVitnesSes:
