To all whom. it ma concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL L. CLAUS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Cocks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention refers to gas cocks and more particularly to that type suitable for use in connection with ranges, heaters or industrial appliances and hasprimarily for its object to provide a'gas cock with a detachable jet plug of simple, economical and efficient construction.
Vith this and other objects in view which will'be apparent as the description proceeds my invention resides inthe novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter described and defined by the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the precise em bodiment might be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
This invention in one practical form in which it may be embodied is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l is a sectional view through a gas cook embodying the features of the invention.
Fig. 2 isa sectional view taken on the plane of the line 2-2 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of the blank forming the jet plug.
Referriiig now more particularly to the accompanying drawing 1 designates a gas cock comprising a casing 2 provided with an inlet 3 and an outlet 4:. Fitted into the casing is the usual tapering cut oil plug 5. Projecting from the casing and in register with the outlet 4 is an externally threaded discharge nozzle 6 provided with a regulat ing nipple 9. The nozzle is provided with a bore slightly larger in diameter than the outlet 4 whereby a shoulder 6 is provided against which the jet plug 8 is adapted to abut on being inserted into the bore of the nozzle.
The jet plug 8 is preferably formed from a single stamped blank of resilient material folded upon itself to form a tubular cross at its shank portion and terminating with a conical end portion 8, the tip of which is Specification of Letters Patent.

provided with an orifice to admit a restricted flow of gas therethrough. The shank portion of the jet plug is adapted to be inserted into the bore of the nozzle whereupon the hollow yieldable ribs 8 Will engage the sides of the nozzle bore to hold the jet plug in its adjusted position.
From this construction it will be seen that grooves will be formed between the engaging ribs 8 whereby the passage of gas is permitted around the jet plug and also through its tubular engaging ribs. By constructing the jet plug of resilient material it will be readily seen that the engaging ribs 8" which are slightly larger than the bore of the nozzle 6 are yieldable toward the center of the jet plug to permit the in sertion of the .same into the nozzle bore and at the same time this resiliency will permit the engaging ribs to frictionally grip the sides of the bore to hold the jet plug in any desired longitudinally adjusted position.
As has been previously explained the nozzle 6 is eXteriorly threaded for the reception of a regulating nipple 9, which nipple is provided with a conically bored discharge outlet 10, the same being tapered to correspond to the taper of the conical end 8" of the jet plug.
It will be readily seen that upon turning the nipple in or out upon the nozzle 6 the orifice provided therein will act in conjunction with the "conical end portion 8 ofthe jet plug to regulate the flow of gas from the cook.- The orifice provided in the conical portion 8 of the jet plug is adapted to admit a restricted jet of gas of suflicient velocity to act upon the injector principle as a leader for the lazy gas passing around the jet plug. It will be understood, however, that in many instances where the gas supplied is of suflicient pressure this opening is not necessary.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a detachable jet of simple, economical and efiicient construction has been provided which can be readily adjusted within the cock and further presents a minimum obstruction to the fiow of gas through the cock thereby insuring a maximum velocity of gas.
I claim:
1. A jet plug comprising a hollow body having a jet orifice of constant size and provided with yieldable engaging ribs extended outwardly of the body, whereby when inserted in a nozzle of uniform diameter, fluid may pass around and through said plug.
2. A jet plug comprising a hollow body provided with yieldable engaging ribs at its shank portion terminating in a conical end portion, the latter having a jet orifice of constant size.
3. A jet plug'comprising a hollow body provided with yieldable hollow engaging ribs at its shank portion terminating in a conical end portion, the latter having a jet orifice of constant size, said ribs being extended outwardly of the body whereby when inserted in a nozzle of uniform diameter, fluid may pass through and around said lug.
4. A jet plug comprising a yieldable hollow body provided with a et orifice of constant size and having outwardly extending wall engaging portions whereby when inserted in a nozzle of uniform diameter, fluid may pass around and through said plug.
5. A jet plug comprising a yieldable hollow body of resilient material, said body being slit through a. portion of its length, the end opposite the slit portion having a .jet orifice of constant size and wall engaging portions extending from the body.
6. A jet plug formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a pair of spaced complementary 'arms having their longitudinal side edges directed laterally for engagement to form a hollow body, each of said arms having an outwardly extending rib. I
7. A jet plug formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a pair of spaced complementary arms connected together at one end and having their longitudinal side edges directed laterally for engagement to form a hollow body, the connected end of said arms being conical, each of said arms having an outwardly extending rib.
8. A jet plug formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a pair of spaced complementary arms each having an outwardlyaextending wall engaging hollow rib whereby to form a hollow body.
9. A jet plug formed from a single sheet of material and comprising a pair of spaced complementary arms connected together at one end, each of said arms having an outwardly extending Wall engaging hollow rib, said ribs being extended from the free ends of the arms and longitudinally thereof, the channels formed by the hollow ribs being alined to provide a hollow body.
10. A gas cock comprising a casing provided with an inlet ,and an outlet, a plug fitted in the casing, a discharge nozzle, a regulating nipple associated with the discharge nozzle, and a detachable jet plug for the discharge nozzle comprising a resilient hollow body having a jet orifice of constant size provided with engaging ribs extended outwardly of said body whereby the passage of gas is permitted around and through the plug.
11. A gas cock comprising a casing provided with an inlet and an outlet, a plug fitted in the casing, a discharge nozzle, a regulating nipple associated with the discharge nozzle and a detachable jet plug for the discharge nozzle comprising a hollow body having a jet orifice of constant size provided with yieldable engaging ribs extended outwardly of said body whereby the passage of gas is permitted around and through said plu 12. A gas cook comprising a casing pro vided with an inlet and an outlet, a plug fitted in the casing, a discharge nozzle, a regulating nipple associated with the discharge nozzle, and a detachable jet plug for the discharge nozzle comprising a hollowbody provided with yieldable engaging ribs at its shank portion terminating in a conical end portion.
