Description

Sel*- 15, 1931# y R. ALEXANDER 1,822,872
` BRASSIERE Filed oct. 29. 1930 voon@ 2 Mango 7i? Jil/@mudar Patented Sept. 15, 1931 l Nima-fente vrafrsrrlorifice f A vIreneo n. 'ALExANriEa or Cin-caso, rumors i Bussines Application 1ed October 29, 1930.: Serial No.-r491`,i8128.
stated, together with other and ancillary ad-A vantages, is attained by the construction and arrangement illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front View of the improved brassire illustrating its application to the body of the wearer.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the garment in extended form.
In the embodimentof the invention illustrated, the improved brassire comprises a fabric belt 8, the ends of .which are adapted to be fastened together at the front of the body as by means of a button 4 engaging in one of a plurality of buttonholes 5. It is intended that the belt shall fitsnugly about the body,
and to avoid undue binding it is preferably made in two sections connected at the rear of the body by means of an elastic strap 6.
v At opposite ends of the belt are provided two supports generally designated by the 0 numeral 7. These supports are made of cloth or other suitablematerial, and in the present instance are formed' from two substantially triangular pieces 8 and 9 stitched together and to the belt in-'overlapping relation so as to form an upwardly opening, substantially V-shaped recess.
Each of the supports 7 has connected to opposite sides thereof a suspender strap 10, one end of the suspender strap being prefer- 40 ably permanently secured to the upper end of the triangular piece 8 of the support, and the other end of the strap being adjustably secured to the' upper end of the piece 9 as by means of a but-ton 11 engaging in one of a 43 plurality of button holes 12. 'By this adustment it is possible readily to vary the lateral pressure exerted by the suspender straps upon the breasts. y
Between its ends each of the straps 10 slidably engages with the forward end of a shoulder strap 13, the rear end of :which is connected to the central 'rear portion yof the belt asby being securedtoan .anchoring piece' 14. lThe slidable connectionbetween the for- Warde'nd of the shoulder strap 13 and the 55 strap 10-.is effected by means .of a loop 15 formed in the'strap 13, through which loop the .strap '10 is inserted.v i
The parts-are so proportioned that with the brassire in place on thebody, the beltB 50 has a snugit; immediately below the breasts, so that the lattermay ybe received within the- Veshaped recesses of thesupports. Thus the side edgesof therecesses engage beneathand `laterally of the breasts, and the shoulder strapslacting through the medium of the straps l() exert an upward and rearward pull on the sides ofv the recesses with a ,resulting inward pressure around thelower and side portions of the breasts. Such pressure is equalized on opposite side portions of each support by reason of the sliding `connection 'betweengthe straps I10 and the shoulder straps 13 so as to insure ease and freedom of 1noyement$^f v, it has been found that'with the construction thusprovided,'the breasts are efectw. ally supported from beneath and from the sides "thereof, andthe contour of the figure is thus substantially improved.
y I claim as my invention: l. brassire comprising an elongated belt adapted to be' litted snugly around the body-ofthe wearer, a pair of supports carried o n the'upper edge of 4the ,belt at the'for- 85 wardjside of the body, said supports havingL edge portions shaped toeng'age the lower andI side .portions of the breasts, and means for exerting upward and lateral pressure on the breasts through the medi-um of said supports, 90 comprising fa'. 'pair of .suspender strapsland shoulder straps having their rear ends con! nected to the rear portion ofy the belt and 4their forward ends adjustably connected to the respective suspender straps intermediate 95 the ends thereof, each of said straps having its opposite ends secured to the opposite sides ofits 'support and one loffsaid endsbeing reJ movably fastenedg'to the support. ,y y a 2,11 brassire-comprising an` elongated belt adapted to be fitted snugly around the body of the wearer, a pair o supports carried by the belt and having upwardly opening su stantially V-shaped recesses to receive the breasts, and means for exerting upward and lateral pressure on the breasts through the medium lof said supports, said pressure exerting means comprising apair of shoulder straps and a pair of supporting straps slidably connected between their ends to the shoulder straps and secured Aat their ends to said supports at opposite sides of said V- shaped recesses, one end of each of said supporting straps being adapted to be secured to its support with a disengageable connection.
belt adapted to be fitted snugly about the body of the wearer and having means for fastening its free ends together at the front side of the body, a pair of shoulder straps each having its rear end anchored to the belt rearwardly of the body and approximately centrally thereof,a pair ofsuspender straps slidably connected between their ends to the forward ends ofsaidshoulder straps at a point forwardly of the body and above the breasts, and a pair offsubstantially V-shaped supports of exible material secured to the forward side of the belt and adapted 'to engage the lower and side portions of the breasts, said suspender straps having their 3. A brassire comprising an elongated i straps intermediate their ends.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto Vaffixed my signature."V 'y MARGO R. ALEXANDER.
said supports and serving through the medium of the supports -to exert an upward and inward pressure on opposite sides ofV the breasts, and said sus ender straps being adjustable to vary-the lateral pressure exerted thereby upon the breasts.
4. A brassire comprising albelt adapted to fit snugly about the body of the wearer, a pair of supports carried bythe belt forwardly of the body and each comprising two substantially triangularly shaped pieces of cloth or the like secured together in overlapping relation so as to form a substantially V- shaped upwardly opening recess, a strapsecured at its opposite ends to saidV support at opposite sides of said recess, and a shoulder .I
strap anchored to the belt lrearwardly ofy the body and slidably connected to said supportl lng straps substantially midway between the ends of the latter, said straps bein operable to exert an upward and rearward orce upon opposite sides of the support.
