Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,049, dated September 12, 1876 3 August 18, 1876. i

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J UAN B. ARCI, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hammock-Frame, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in

' side rails, hinged sectional end rails, hinged braces for spreading the frame, and derricks for suspending the hammock, the whole being so arranged that it can be folded up to a comparatively small compass, or expanded for supporting a hammock.

In the drawing, the letter A designates a frame which is made of rigid side rails a, and sectional end rails b, the sections of which are connected to each other by pivots c, and to the side rails by pivots d. From the central pivots of the end rails extend braces B which are connected to extensions of the side rails by pivots e, and the heads of the pivots 01 form bearings for derricks O, the upper ends of each of which are connected by pivots f.

By this arrangement the whole device, when it is not to be used, can be folded up to the position shown in Fig. 3; but if the same is to be used, the frame A is-unfolded to the position shown in Fig.2, the derricks O are raised, and their upper ends are connected by a rope,

. g, (see Fig. 1,) and they are further secured in position by guy-ropes h, which extend from application filed their upper ends to the ends of the extensions of the side rails 01,.

The side rails are braced by transverse ropes i, (one or more,) to prevent them from spreading outward, and the hammock D is finally slung to the pivots, which unite the upper ends of the two derricks.

By this arrangement a frame is obtained which can be readily folded and unfolded, and

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A hammock-frame, composed of rigid side rails a, sectional hinged end rails 11, hinged braces B, and folding derricks 0, all constructed and operating substantially as described.

2. The combination, with the rigid side rails a, sectional hinged end rails 12, hinged braces B, and folding-derricks O, of guy-ropes h, and a rope, g, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth. i
