This invention relates to a detached dwelling or house mail box.

The chief object of this invention is to provide a mail box that can be incorporated in a building wall between studding and ad justed to the thickness of the wall and so that when mounted there is exposed a covered opening upon the exterior of the dwelling or house and a covered opening in the interior.

One feature of the invention consists in the construction of the same such that a box of this character is adapted to readily accommodate large sized magazines of the follow-' ing character, Saturday Evenin Post, Ladies Home Journal, House and @arden and other magazines which come 1n large rolled or heavy flat size.

Another feature of the invention consists in the arrangement of several of the parts such that an llluminatlon compartment 1s 7 provided for exterior exposure. The third feature of the invention consists in the ad j ustable construction and full telescopic association of the two body portions of the mail box.

The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims.

Fig. 1 is a central sectional view of the mail box embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof.

In the drawings the mail box is shown of an adjustable depth only. It extends from side to side of an exterior wall and has openings normally closed by closures and exposed tovthe inside and outside. The dimensions of the construction are preferably of the following character: The width IV is fixed and that normally is such that the mail box will be readily receivable between two parallel studs. The length or height of the mail box from top to bottom is indicated by the dimension L and is likewise fixed. It is somewhat greater than the overall length of magazines of the character hereinbefore mentioned. The depth ofthe box is adjustable and the same is accommodated to the depth or thickness of the wall that receives and mounts the box. The front and back portions of the box have their open ends fully telescopic for the aforesaid adjustment. Each box, in addition to having the full opening end at one end, includes a lateral extension at the other-end and toward one corner of the box, said extension being normally closed by a pivotally supported closure. The two extensions are preferably diagonally positioned when the front and back portions are associated together so that the dotted line XX in Fig. 1 represents one extreme diagonal and the dotted line YY represents an intermediate diagonal. Both diagonals, it will be observed, provide substantially continuous inclined free passage from the inlet opening covered by the closure 48 to the outlet or discharge opening covered by the closure or door 21.

The invention claimed is:

1. In a mail box, a main body portion, a lateral extension at one end including an inclined portion leading therefrom toward the body mid-portion for chute formation, and a- U-shaped member having its sides coincident with the extension sides and one edge of the intermediate portion associated with the inclined portion. to form a triangular compartment therewith beneath the extension.

2.
