Application December 31 Renewed Nove 1 Claim.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in radio cabinets.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a radio cabinet mounted upon a rotatable support and having a sound magnifying and reflecting hood associated therewith for causing the sound emanating from the radio cabinet to be projected in the desired direction.
A further object of the invention is to provide a radio cabinet of the foregoing character in which the sound reflector or hood extends from the base of the cabinet at one side thereof in an upward direction to project forwardly over the cabinet with the reflector hood projecting outwardly of thesides of the cabinet and having ornamental transparent front wall sections terminating adjacent the upper end of the cabinet with illuminating means within the reflector hood.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Figure l is a front elevational view of a radio cabinet constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the reflector hood associated therewith;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view showing the illuminated means within the hood by dotted lines and the vertical journal bearing for rotatably supporting the radio cabinet upon a base mounting; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, showing the casing construction of the lower end of the sound reflecting hood.
The radio cabinet 5 may be of any conventional design and manufacture, herein illustrated as rectangular in cross-section with a panel 6 set in the front wall thereof that is provided with the usual control devices shown in Figure 1, while the front wall of the cabinet may also be ornamentally designed in any convenient manner as illustrated. For purposes of the present invention, the loud or sound speaker opening 7 is provided in the rear wall of the cabinet and faces the sound reflecting hood as illustrated.
The reflector hood 8 comprises a rear wall 9 having side angle connections 10 and side walls 11 which are spaced from the side walls of the cabinet 5 as shown in Figure 3, the walls 9, 10 and 11 flaring outwardly and upwardly from a support 12. mber 22, 1933 of a forwardly directed arched hood 13 and is formed of panels as illustrated for purposes of beautification and is disposed over and above the cabinet 5. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the transparent ornamental front wall sections 14 form a 00 part of the reflector hood and extend upwardly from the support 12 to a point adjacent the upper end of the radio cabinet 5, illuminating means 15 disposed within the hood rearwardly of the front wall sections 14, illuminating the area with in the hood as well as transparent wall sections.
The radio cabinet 5, together with the support 12 for the reflector hood is mounted upon a base comprising upper and lower sections 16 and 17 respectively with a vertical journal pin 18 posi- (0 tioned axially of the base sections 16 and 17 while an anti-friction ball race 19 is disposed between said sections permitting free rotary movement of the upper section 16 carrying the radio cabinet and reflector hood upon the lower section 17.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, it being noted that by the provision of the rotatable mounting of the upper base section 16 upon the lower base section 17, the radio cabinet and its associated sound reflecting hood may be rotatably shifted upon the base section 1'7 to cause the reflected sound to be emitted in the desired direction from the radio cabinet, the ornamental transparent or translucent front wall sections 14 of the hood 8 with the illuminating means 15 greatly enhancing the beauty of the apparatus and rendering room illumination unnecessary. The sounds emanating from the opening '7 in the radio cabinet are directed into the reflecting hood 8 to be magnified and delivered in the desired direction.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that various changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim:
In a device of the class described, a base sup port, a radio cabinet rotatively mounted on said base support and having a sound outlet in its rear side, a sound reflector hood disposed rearwardy of the radio cabinet and spaced therem5 from, and including side walls and an arched wall directed toward the forward side of the radio cabinet and terminating rearwardly of the forward side face thereof.
