Description

S. DAVIDSON.
ORNAMENTAL 01111111.
No.181,417. Patented Aug. 22,1876.
N-PETERS, PflDTO-UTHOGRIFHEE WASHINGTON, D c- NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON DAVIDSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN ORNAMENTAL CHAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.'l8l,4l7, dated August 22, 1876; application filed June 5, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
The mode of engaging the binding-ring D Be it known that I, SOLOMON DAVIDSON, of 1 with the cross-heads B B consists in providthe city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chain-Links, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which v Figure 1 represents a side view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My improvement is especially adapted to links for ornamental chains; and it consists in one or more filling-rings, combined with two cross-heads, which have notches to receive the filling-rings, and with a binding-ring, which engages with the cross-heads in such a manner as to connect the several parts firmly together, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawing, the letter A designates the filling-rings of my link, three of which 1 have, in this example, used; and B B are the two cross-heads, which are provided on their opposite sides with notches c, as seen in Fig. 2. These notches c are so made that they are adapted to receive the inner edges of the tilling-rings A in them, and to hold the rings parallel toeach other when they are inserted in the notches.
The letter D designates the binding-ring, which, as well as the filling-rings A, is made of an oblong shape; and the inner edge of the binding-ring D is made to engage with the ends of the-cross-heads B B, so that the said cross-heads, together with the filling-rings A, are firmly held within it.
3 ing the binding-ring with a groove, 6, along 1 its inner edge, and in forming a tenon, f, at-
I the respective ends of the cross-heads, which tenon is fitted and inserted in the groove e; but it is obvious that the binding-ring can be fastened in various other ways, and, moreover, the groove and tenon e f may be transposed.
It may be remarked that the filling-rings A can be made alike, or different from each other, either in form or color.
If desired, a single cross-head, B, may be used, of suflicient length to retain the various parts in position; and the cross-head or crossheads may be so constructed that one or more binding-rings may be applied.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, in a chain-link, of one or more filling-rings, A, two cross-heads, B B, having notches for the reception of the said filling ring or rings, and a binding-ring, D, which engages with the said cross-heads, the whole constructed and connected together substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of May, 1876.
soLoMon DAVIDSON. 1 s] Witnessesi W. HAUFF, R0131. E. MILLER.
