Description
A. FULK.
BEACH FOR BOLSTERS AND THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 17. 1911 1,020,410, Patented Mar. 19, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER FULK, OF MOUNT AIRY, NORTH CAROLINA.
BRACE FOR IBOLS'IERS AND THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER FULK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Airy, in the county of Surry and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Brace for Bolsters and the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful metallic strap loops for embracing bolsters, for insuring strength and rigidity therefor.
The main object of the invention is to provide a novel, simple, efficient and practical metallic strap loop, of the nature shown in the drawings, for use in connection with bolsters and the like having shoulders, against which the straps contact, for preventing movement of the straps in one di rection.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for preventing movement of the straps in the opposite direction.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a view in elevation, of a wagon bolster, showing the same applied with a metallic strap loop. Fig. 2 is a view in perspective. Fig. 3 is a sectional view longitudinally of Fig. 2 on line 3-3 thereof. Fig. 41 is a sectional view on line 47*4: of Fig. 1.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates the bolster whether a front or rear bolster, or as shown in the drawings a swingle tree. The bolster or swingle tree is provided with a shoulder 2. Embracing the bolster or swingle tree is a Specification of Letters Patent.

metallic strap loop 3, which is arranged in position so as to contact with the shoulder. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the end of the bolster is recessed, as shown at 5, from the shoulder upwardly, to receive the plugs G. The plugs (i are so shaped as to prevent upward movement of the strap loop, while the shoulder prevents downward movement. The plugs 6 are secured in position by the spurs 7, which are farmed, or struck out of the strap. The spurs 7 engage within the plugs. If the plugs are made of metal they are provided with recesses at the point where the spurs 7 are to be received.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is In combination, a holster having a shoulder extending longitudinally of its sides and provided with recesses at each end forming shoulders inclined upwardly and outwardly, a metallic endless strap embracing the holster above the shoulder and in contact therewith, the inner surface of the strap at each end thereof being correspondingly shaped with relation to the inclined shoulders, plugs engaging between the inclined shoulders and the inclined inner surfaces at the ends of the strap, the strap having spurs turned inwardly of the strap and in engagement with the plugs, the shoulders of the sides of the bolster acting to prevent downward movement of the strap while the inclined shoulders, the plugs and the spurs prevent upward displacement of the strap.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
