Be it known that'I, HARRY PARRY, ot Milwaukee, in theA county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Chairs, ot1 which the following is a specification:
My invention has for its object the arrangement of a chair with va spring under the seat, so as when the seat is tipped back it will bring it forward again. lt is a device designed as an office-chair, with a screw under the center of same, so that by turning the seat it will be raised or lowered so as to suit the person sitting in it ;V 'and the person may tip the seat back till the stop ou the seat will strike a corresponding stop on the cross-bar, and the spring will bring the seat back to a level position.
Figure 1 is a side view ot my invention; Fig. 2, a viewofthe bottom ot' the seat; Fig. 3, a view of the stopon the chair and end of the cross-bar; Fig. 4, a sectional view, showing the spring and its connections.'l
A is the seat` of the chair; B, the legs of' saine; C, a screw with cross-bar D attached to head of same, and screwing into a vblock tted into the center of legs B; E, a spring,
which hooks into a hole in ear F in the crossbar D at one end, and at the other end hooking into a bowing lever, G, the other end of lever G resting in a socket, H, ill the center ot'cross-barD; I, block forming the center of legs B; K, a stop on ear-piece L, attached to the bottoni of each side ot' the chair-bottom; M, a stop on each end ot' cross-bar D, which, as tbe top ot' the chair is tipped back, strikes against the stop K, and prevents the top from tipping too far back, or from its tipping over if the spring E should break; N, a bar running from the center of cross-bar D to the front of the seat; O, the cane seat; P, the top of the chair; Q, the front of' seat A, resting 011 the end ot' bar N.
I claim as new and as my invention- 1. The combination of spring E, hooking into ear F, and lever G, having its inner end. resting in socket H, substantially as described.
2. The combination of chair-seat A, crossbar D, ear L, and stops K and M, substantially as described.
