To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI, HOWARD 0. Owner, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butte, inthe county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Chair Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vchair attachments and the principal object of the inven-- tion is to provide a simple and eiiicient device which may be conveniently attached to childrens high'chairs for preventing the child from crawling beneath the tray or table. a
A further object of the invention is to i provide a device of this character which will act in the manner of an adjustable bridge piece extending between the table or tray and theseat for preventing the infant from crawlingunder the tray or table.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which i H Figure l is a front elevation of a high chair showing the attachment applied ment removed. Y
Fig. 3 showsthe attachment provided with a rigid post.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents anfordinary high chair, 2
the trayaor the chair at table thereof-which is hinged to 3 and which is adapted to rest upon the arm of the chair parallel with the seat, as is usual. The attachmentcomprises a supporting plated which is attached to the underneath sideof the tray or table and is provided with a raised centrally bored boss having internal screw threads to receive the external screw threads formed on one end of the post 5. This postmay be formed of one piece,as shown in Fig. 3, or formed in two parts 6 and 7 as shown in Fig. 2; The part 6 fits within the part 7 which is in the form of a tube having a closed outer end 8. Arranged in the tube Gopies of this patentmay be obtained for is a spring 9'which abuts the outer end of the part 6 at one end and at its other end the closed end 8 of the tube and is adapted to normally hold the closed end of the tube 7 in contact with the chair seat. The part 7 is limited in its outward movement by means of a rod connected to the part 8 and slidably mounted within the longitudinal channel formed in the part 6, the inner end of the rod having a head 11 to engage the internal flange formed within the channel of the part 6. YVhen thus attached to a chair the post depends from the table to or tray, as will sleeve for contact with the chair seat, an
expansion spring within said sleeve, a stem carried by the bottom face'of said tray and received in said sleeve for contact with the spring, and means for holding said sleeve on the stem. a i
2. The combination with av high chair 7 a high chair ward the seat and is straddled by the child I using the chair, thus making it impossible having a hinged tray above the seat, of an attachment for the chair adapted to serve as a restraining device and comprising a stem connected with the bottom face of the tray and having an internal flange, a sleeve movable longitudinally of said stem, a closed end on said sleeve, a spring disposedibetween said flange and said endon the sleeve and Q adapted to hold the sleeve in contact with end on the sleeve and extending above said flange, and a head on said rod for contact with said flange.
