Description

' June 16, 1931. o. BANKER DRAIN BOARD FOR WRINGERS Filed March 25, 1930 v This invention relates to a drain board for Patented June 16, 1931 UNITED STATES. OFFICE- orro Bauxite, or magma, V a;
i DRAIN BoAnnronlwnIifeiiRsI p it I 7' 3 Application filed March 25,1550. -Seriatidoi 438 82;. f if I "clined downwardly,towarclieach other to poi:
I use in connection with wringers.
It is frequently desirable to place a clothes wringer betweentwo tubs and to pass the fabrics from one tub throughthe wringer to.
the other tub. During this operation the expressedwater should be directed back to the tub from which the fabrics were removed. It is an object of the present invention to provide a wringer with a reversible drain board which can be quickly positioned to direct the water into either tub.
Another object is to provide novel means for holding the drain board in either of its two. extreme positions.
A still further object is to provide a structure ofthis character which is simple, durable, and compact and can be combined readily witha wringer.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawingsthe prebeen shown.
ferred form of the invention has In said drawings I p Flgurel 1s a front elevation of a portion of a wringer provided with thepresent im provement. r I Flgure 2 1s a side elevatlon.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3+3, Figure 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates the frame of a wringer which is adapted to be set up between two tubs. The rolls have been indicated at 2 and can be driven by any suitable Secured within the frame 1 below the rolls 2 are plates 3 extending throughout the;
ing flange 5. The two flanges carried by the J two plates are oppositelydisposed' and insition's" under the lio wer'roll 2.
rod '6 is arranged'beneath the spacebe- "tween; flanges 5 and fastened to this rod so as to be supported therebyandto rotate there wlthis-a drain board 7. i
fcrank arm 8 is provided at one endof rod 6' andfissupport'ed back of a guidev plate 9 the ends'of whicha'r'e'offs'et as at 10 and attached to frame 1. In this plate is anarcu'ate slot 11 concentric with the axis ofro'd6 and s the free e11cl..p ortion of crank: arm Sextends through this slot and may be provided with a knob 12 or thelike.
The parts are so proportioned that whenjyj the crank arm is positioned in one end of slot 11 the drain'board 7 is inclined so that its I upper edge bears against the lower surface of one flange 5. Consequently when water expressed from fabrics flows downwardly along the lower roll 2 it will be deposited on the two flanges 5 and be deflected thereby onto the drainboard 7 which,{inturn, will direct the wate'n by gravity from the selected side of the frame 1. By shifting the crank arm to its other, extreme position the position of i the drain board'will be reversed and theextracted water will be delivered from the other side of the frame.
tween the cross strips 4: and has no part projecting outwardly from the frame where it between thelower portions of the strips 4: when the drain board is in either of its extreme'positions. Consequently any suitable volume of water drainingdownwardly along i the board will be deflected downwardly by the adjacent lower portion of the strip 4 or {of the p1ate'3 attached thereto.
Whatis claimed is: I
1. The combination with a wringer frame and rolls'therein, of oppositely disposed downwardly converging j water-defiecting Frictional contact between the crank arm} 8 and plate 9 will be suflicient .to hold the drain board in place; It will be noted that the drain board is practically concealed at all times bemembers beneath the rolls,cross strips, adrain board tiltably mounted beneath said mem- 7 bers and substantially concealed at all times between the cross strips, and means for tilting the drain board into contact with the bottom surface of either of said members, the distance between the upper and lower edges of the drain board being less than the distance between the cross strips, the lower por- 7 tion of each of said cross strips constituting 10 water deflecting means.
2. The combination with a wringer frame and rolls therein, of spaced cross strips having lower deflecting portions oppositely disposed downwardly converging water-deflecting members beneath the rolls and secured to the cross strips, a drain board tiltably mounted beneath said members and substantially concealed at all times by the cross strips, and means for tilting the drain board into so contact with the bottom surface of either of said members, said means including a crank arm fixed to the drain board and a guide for limiting the swinging movement of the crank arm. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
OTTO BANKER.
