,Application filed August 15, 1924. set-1am. 732,160.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HELEN Tinnn, a c1tizen of the United States, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothesline Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to clotheslines, the invention having more particular reference to a covering for clotheslines which may be projected over the line when desired.
The invention has for an object the provision of a novel device of this sort which may be readily collapsed or extended over the line.
For further comprehension of the inven tion, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the follow ing description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. 1
Fig. 10f the drawing is a side view showing a clothesline having the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal sectional view of the collapsible cover, this view being taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view taken I Referring now to the drawing the reference numeral 16 indicates a clothesline which is looped over a pair of pulleys 11 on the wall 12 of a house adjacent the window of the latter, and a third pulley 13 on a post.
13 or the like, this pulley 13 being of considerable diameter. The pulleys 11 are supported by the brackets 14 and the pulley 13 may be supported by a bracket 15. These pulleys are mounted on vertical axes, the two reaches of the line 16 lying in a com mon horizontal plane. Each of the blackets supports a second pulley, the pulleys on the. brackets 14 being numbered 18 and the pulley on the bracket 15 being numbered 19. Looped over these pulleys is a cord or rope 20 to which the covering elements are attached, this cord or rope extending above the line 16.
As here shown there is a covering element for each reach of the line 16 and each of said elements comprises a cloth member 24 attached to a series of transverse plates 25 having legs depending therefrom, the cord passing freely through apertures in all but the plate 25 at one end, which latter is attached to the said cord as indicated at 26 in Fig. This end plate is movable, while the other end plate, indicated specifically at 25 is fixed. The end plate 25, of the cover element which is near the house, has projecting therefrom a fin or web 28 to which the free ends of a pair of parallel arms 29 are pivotally attached, these arms being pivoted at their opposite ends to a suitable fixed member 29 on the house wall 12, to swing vertically. Projecting from the upper one of these arms 29 and integral therewith is a handle 30 the free end of which is adapted to be engaged by a hook 31 swingably held in the eye of a member 31 secured on the wall 12 to hold the cover element in raised position when the clothes are being placed on the line. The corresponding end plate of the other cover element may be attached to a fin or web 33 et 16.
It is believed that the manner of use of my improved clothes line attachment will be readily understood from the above description, it being apparent that the covering element may be projected over the line or drawn back as desiredby moving the cord or rope. i
projecting from the brack- I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows q 1. In combination with a clothes line, a rope extending along said line above the latter, and a collapsible cover element for the clothesline connected to the said rope to bemoved by the latter between collapsed and extended positions.
2. In combination with a clothes line, a rope extending along said line above the latter, and a collapsible cover element for the clothesline connected to the said rope to be moved by the latter between collapsed and extended positions, said cover element comprising a cloth hood, and a number of transverse plates to which the said hood is attached.
3. In combination with a clothes line, a
i. In combination with a clothes line, a rope extending along said line above the latter, and a collapsible cover element for the elothesline connected to the said rope to be moved by the latter between collapsed and extended ositi-ons, and means for raising and lowerlng said cover element, comprising a pair of parallel arms pivoted at one end to a fixed part and connected at their opposite ends to the said cover element. 1
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
HELEN TIEDE.
