H. w. EDEN WRINGER DRAIN BOARD Filed Oct. 30, 1925 h. 14/ EDEN INVENTOR tennis HAROLD W. EDEN, 0F DAVENPORT, IUWA.
l/VRINGER DRAEN BOARD.
Application filed October 30, 1925.
My invention relates to washing machine wringers and more especially to the means for guiding clothing into the space between the wringer rolls and carrying water therefrom into the wash tub.
Among the objects of my invention are to provide a construction of the type indicated which can be made to carry the water from the wringer rolls in either direction without longitudinally shifting the drain board in the Wringer; to provide a construction of the type indicated which will serve to guide clothing into the space between the wrinp er rolls; to provide means of the kind designated which will serve to guide the clothing from the wringer rolls into the tub or basket to which said clothing is being directed from the wr'inger; to provide a construction of the type designated which will carry the water from the wringer to the tub Without the water being carried back into the clothing after it has been lifted from the water; to provide a structure of the kind indicated which is easily manufactured and is inexpensive; to improve upon the holding means which retains a tiltable drain board in adjusted position; and such objects, advantages and capabilities as will hereafter more fully appear and as are inherent in the construction disclosed.
My invention further resides in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying; drawing; and, while I have shown therein what is now considered the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire the same to be understood as illustrative only and not as limiting said invention.
In the drawing annexed hereto and forming); a part hereof, Fig. 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a wringer with my improved drain board in position therein; 2 is a transverse section through the frame of this wringer to show more in detail the locking mechanism for the drain board; and 3 is a vertical longitudinal section through the structure shown in Fig. 1, omitting the wringer rolls and designed to show the pivotal mounting of the drain board and some what of the structure thereof.
Referring more in detail to the annexed drawing, numerals 1 and 2 denote the side frame members of the wring'er while numeral 3 denotes generally the drain boarc mounted in the wringer below the wringer rolls 4. The frame members 1 and 2 may be Serial No. 65,777.
provided with bosses 5 or, if the frame is made of sufliciently heavy material so tha' this is not necessary, the pivot rod 6 may be mounted in perforations in the frame mem bers instead of in the bosses 5. If desired, lugs may extend inwardly from the frame to serve as pivotal means for the drain board but this is not considered as desirable as the construction here disclosed. In 1 and 2 I show a lug 7 extending laterally from the frame member 2. This lug is hollowed out and perforated for the reception of a spring pressed plunger 8 provided with a head 9 for retracting the plunger so that the drain board may be tilt-ed from one inclined position to another, as will be readily understood. The plunger is adapted to enter a depression or perforation. 8' in the flange 11 (shown in Fig. 1) or to engage beneath the drain board as shown in said figure.
The drain board itself is what may be called a double drain board and has a lower member 10 provided at its two ends with flanges 11 which are either integral with the lower member or are secured thereto, preferably the former. The flanges are shown as notched at 12 to provide space for the rocking of the drain board on its pivot rod 6, to which the drain board is held by means 13, iere shown as a bent plate secured to the underside of the lower member. The flanges 11 extend upwardly some distance from the lower member and have upper members and 15 secured thereto below the upper edges of the flanges. These upper members l t and 15 may be considered guide members for guiding clothing into the rolls and from the rolls into a tub or basket. Members 14 and 15 are turned downwardly as shown at 16 and 17 to serve as guards for the front and back edges of the bottom member 10. These parts 16 and 17 also prevent, to a certain extent, the water which leaves the drain board from passing outwardly into the clothing which is rising from the tub. Also, these parts serve to strengthen the upper mem bers 14; and 15 and prevent them from being too easily bent. As indicated at 18, space is provided between the upper and lower members for the exit of water which collects inside the wedge shaped pockets of the drain board. If desired, the bottom plate 10 and the upper plates 14 and 15 could be made integral and the structure could be provided with perforations at the points 18 for the escape of water from the interior of the drain board but this is not considered as desirzhl memb 1? end members risino' from two edges 65 7 w J: a,
