Wringers are ordinarily supplied with cross plates along the front and rear of the wringer, one type of such cross plate forminga guide board, or shelf along the bite of the rolls. In the modern wringer such guide boards are ordinarily made of sheet metal and attached to a wringer provided with a sheet metal frame. The board as ordinarily made has a single wall extending toward the front and is provided with some sort of a single-wall end construction for attaching to the frame. Such structures are more or less fragile and present corners on which the clothes often catch leading to injury to the clothes and sometimes to'the wringer. The attachment under this form of construction \is usually exposed also making possible points of engagement with the clothes and also detracting materially from the appearance of the wringer. Wringers are also generally provided with guards at the ends of the rolls preventing the movement of clothes past the ends of the rolls. The present invention involves a guide leading to the bite of the rolls which is provided with'extended end supporting walls preferably in the form of a fold and preferably forming a continuation of a skirt along the front of the guide. In this way all corners which are liable to catch the clothes are avoided, the guide board materially stiffened and strengthened and the attaching means housed. In the preferred form also this end construction is carried inwardly from the edge of the wringer frame and has fashioned in it guards at the ends of the rolls of the wringer. As further strengthening the structure as a whole and placing the edges of the metal as remote from the point of use as possible the end walls of the guide are overlapped and carried around the end of the wringer frame, preferably the two sides of guide abutting. Features and details ofthe invention will appear from the specification and claims.

The wringer frame comprises a base 1, side stiles 2, top bar 3 and is provided with the usual wringer rolls 4 and 5 and the usual pressureadjusting means. The base is in the form of a trough 6 which catches the drip from the rolls and this drip is carried to a central opening 7 in the trough and delivered to a tilting drain member 8 receiving the water from the opening 7 and carrying it to the receptacle from which the clothes are delivered. These parts are, or may be, of common construction. A guide board 9 is of sheet metal and has end portions in the form of a fold with an inner wall 10, a front wall 11 and an end wall 12. The front of the guide plate is provided with a skirt 12a. and this skirt is continued in the front and around the end of the end portions. Preferably these end portions extend upwardly forming side guides for the guide and as will be noted any corners, or edges on which the clothes might catch are eliminated. The guide is stifiened and given a pleasing appearance.

Each end portion is provided with an attaching fitting 13, said fitting having a slot 14 adapted to engage a hook 15 struck up in the face of each side stile. The slot 14 is cut out sidewise at 17 and downwardly at 18 forming a side shoulder 19 and a bottom shoulder 20. In attaching the guide the shoulder 19 is placed on the lower wall of the hook, the guide moved sidewise, which brings the lower wall of the hook 15 over the shoulder 20 and in register with the slot 14. This permits the fitting to move downwardly bringing the hook intothe upper portion 95 of the slot 14. With the hook in this position, the guide is locked against endwise'movement and is not disengaged if moved directly upwardly. Consequently an accidental disengagement, or

displacement of the guide is largely prevented. I

The hook 15,the attaching fitting, in fact, the

- connection between the frame and the guide is sealed and housed within the end portions, thus eliminating the chance for clothes catching on these parts and adding materially to the appearance of the structure.

In the modification shown in Figs. 8 and 11 the guide structure is similar to that shown in Fig. 1 except that the end portions 21 have their inner walls 10a carried in along the ends of the no rolls a sufficient distance to form guards for the ends of the rolls. The walls 10a are provided with a return wall 22 extending along the roll and a rearwardly extending flange 23 carrying the inner wall back to engagement with the face of the wringer frame. The structure is supplied with the same attaching means and is otherwise the same as that shown in Fig. 1. It eliminates the necessity of a separate guard plate, or guard structure.

In the modification shown in Figs. 12 to 14, the guide plate is similar to that shown in Fig. 8 except that an end portion 24. has its outer wall 25 overlapping the end of the wringer frame and the outer walls of the end portions of the guide plates at the front and rear of the wringer abut at 26 along the outer faces of the stiles.

What I claim as new is:

1. In a wringer, the combination of a frame; rolls mounted in the frame; a detachable guide plate along the bite of the rolls having end portions, said end portions having a front and outer wall, the outer wall leading rearwardly toward the frame; and means under the ends securing the plate to the frame.

2. In a wringer, the combination of a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounwd in the frame; and a guide plate along the bite of the rolls, said plate being attached to the side stiles and having end portions, said end portions having a front and outer wall, the outer wall leading rearwardly toward the frame, said plate having a downwardly extending front skirt, said skirt extending around the ends. 3. In a wringer, the combination of a frame; rolls mounted .in the frame; a detachable guide plate along the bite of the rolls having upwardly extending ends, said ends having the form of a fold with inner front and outer walls; and means within the fold securing the plate on the frame.

4. In a wringer, the combination of a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounted in the frame; and a guide plate along the bite of the rolls, said plate being attached to the side stiles and having upwardly extending ends, said ends having the form of a fold with inner, front and outer walls, the inner wall being off-set inwardly from and overlapping the frame of the wringer and forming a guard for the ends of the upper roll.

5. In a wringer, the combination of a frame; rolls mounted in the frame; a detachable guide plate along the bite of the rolls having upwardly extending ends, said ends having the form of a fold with inner, front and outer walls, the inner wall being off-set inwardly from the frame of the wringer and overlapping and forming a guard for the ends of the upper roll; and means within the fold securing the plate to the frame.

6. In a wringer, the combination of a frame; rolls mounted in the frame; and a guide plate along the bite of the rolls having end portions,

said end portions having a front and outer wall,

the outer wall leading rearwardly toward the frame, said outer wall of the end overlapping the ends of the frame.

7. In a wringenthe combination of a frame; rolls mounted in the frame; and front and rear guide plates extending along the bite of the rolls, each having end portions, said end portions having a front and outer wall, the outer wall leading rearwardly and overlapping the end of the frame, the outer walls of one guide plate abutting the outer walls of the opposite guide plate.

8. In a wringer, the combination of a frame; rolls mounted in the frame; supporting hooks arranged at each side of the frame; and a plate extending across the front of the wringer having end portions including a fold, and means within the fold comprising a slot having a side opening extending from the lower portion of the slot and a vertical opening extending through a portion of the bottom of the slot, said slot being adapted to engage the hook by a side and vertical movement.

9. In a wringer, the combination of a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounted in the frame; and a cross plate attached to the side stiles, said plate being in the form of a shelf along the front of the wringer having end portions, said end portions having a front and outer wall, the outer wall leading rearwardly toward the frame.

10. In a wringer, the combination of 'a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounted in the frame; a cross plate in the form of a shelf along the front of the wringer having end portions in the form of folds, each having a front and outer wall, the outer wall leading rearwardly to- Ward the frame; and means under the folds securing the cross plate to the frame.

11. In a wringer, the combination of a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounted in the frame; and a cross plate attached to the side stiles, said plate being in the form of a shelf extending across the front of the wringer and having upwardly extending end portions in the form of folds with inner, front and outer walls.

12. In a wringer, the combination of a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounted in the frame; and a cross plate attached to the side stiles and being in the form of a shelf extending across the front of .the wringer and having upwardly extending end portions in the form of folds with inner, front and outer walls, the plate having a downwardly extending skirt, said skirt being continued around the front and outward fold of the end portions.

13. In a wringer, the combination of a frame having a base and side stiles; rolls mounted in the frame; and a cross plate attached to the side stiles, said plate being in the form of a shelf extending across the front of the wringer and having upwardly extending end portions in the form of folds with inner, front and outer walls, the plate having a downwardly extending skirt, said skirt being continued around the front and outward fold of the end portions, said outer portions overlapping the ends of the wringer.
