Description

J. H. DWORK June 2, 1931.
MOP WRINGER Filed Oct. 11. 1930 INVENTQR Joqsepb EDWOI'IC,
WITNESS ATTORNEY Patented June 2, 1931 UNITED STATES .iosnrn I-I. nwonx, or NEWARK, NEW JERSEY I M]? WRINGER Application filed October 11, 1930. Serial 110,488,072.
My invention relates to mop wringers and it consists in the constructions, arrangements and combinations of parts herein described and claimed.
An object of the invention is the provision of a mop Wringer incorporated as an integral part of a water pail and wherein a part of the wringer proper constitutes the hail of the vessel.
A further object of the invention is to provide a base for the pail so shaped as to accommodate a bearing for the foot treadle.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a mop wringer in which the foot treadle acts as a support for the receptacle,
to prevent tipping thereof during the wringing operations.
Additional objects, advantages and fea tures of the invention will be apparent from the following description and drawings forming a part of this application wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, in position to receive a mop. Figure 2 is a vertical section showing the parts in wringing position.
Figure 3 is a top plan View. Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a modified form of bracket.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a receptacle 10, which may be of any well known construction, but having the bottom 11 disposed a distance from the supporting edge 12, thereby providing a recess 13. The bottom 11 is centrally and transversely dished as at 14 and within this dished portion, there is provided a bearing 15.
A foot treadle generally indicated by the reference character 16 is oscillatably mount- 7 ed within the bearing 15 and comprises a heavy wire 17 of a length to extend beyond the outer circumference of the receptacle, the ends being bent at right angles as at 18 and thence inwardly as at 19 so as to lie in 5 the same plane as the portion 17, but stops short of the sides of the receptacle.
Upon one side of the receptacle I provide a bracket 20 of a shape to fit the inner circumference of the receptacle, this bracket being secured to the receptacle by rivets, or
otherwise. The bracket 20 is suitably apertured at diametrically opposite points for mounting of a revoluble roller 21; The bracket 20 also includes guides 22, disposed adjacent the ends of the roller 21, which serve to retain the mop clear of the trunnions of the roller. I i A From this'construction itwill be apparent that the bracket serves to reinforce the re-. ceptacle as well as afford support'for the roller. w 7 Ears 23 are mounted upon the upper edge of the receptacle 10, the axis'of these ears being in a plane parallel to the longitudinal axis of the roller 21, z
A handle 24 is pivoted in respective ears 23. The handle in the present instance, is formed from strap iron bent intermediate its ends to provide a bight portion 25, the leg portions 26 thereof extending rearwardly as seen in Fig. 2) and are slightly canted forwardly, as at 27. Intermediately .ofthe. legs 26, :I provide an ear 26', extended at right angles, and between these cars: there is a revoluble roller 28. The handle is of such length as to dispose the roller 28 above a the r0ller121. It should'be noted that the ears 26f dispose the rollers'well in advance 'of the bight portion'25, thus aifording ample clearanceforamop. A i i The leg members 26 are canted forwardly in order to prevent the roller 28 in mutual contact with the roller 21, which is disposed well within the receptacle 10;
Upon opposite sides of'the' handle 24 there is pivoted a link 29 which extends downwardly and is pivotally mounted uponthe portion 19 of the foot treadle 16.
When it is desired to employ the handle 24 for transporting the pail, the handle is grasped centrally of the bight portion and raised upwardly, when the pail may be readily carried. V 1
It should be noted that the foot treadle 16 herein described provides a bracing means for the receptacle extending laterally through the center ofthe receptacle, and it will be therefore seen that upsetting or tipping of the pail, during wringing operation iseliminated. y 1 a In the operation of my device the handle 24 is in its raised-position as illustrated in Fig. 1. The mop is positioned upon the roller 21 with the mop strands confined upon the roller by the guide-s 22,the loose ends of the mop extending into the receptaclelO. The operator now places one foot upon one of the I treadles 16 and exerts a downward movement on the treadle.
compressed between" the rollers thereby expelling the water therefrom.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I i have provided a mop wringer of simple construction, and'one which embodies a construction preventing'tipping of the receptacle during wringing operations.
In Fig. '4, I have illustrated a modified form of bracket, in which an ear 30 is formed integrally with the bracket 20. In the use of this form of bracket, the ears 28 of the receptacle are omitted, the ears 30 being bent so as to overlie the rim of the receptacle.
What is claimed is:
1. In a mop wringer, a receptacle having a bottom transversely dished, a bearing mounted therein, a treadle member oscillatably .mounted in said bearing, and said treadle member extendinglaterally upon opposite sides of saidreceptacle to provide a support for said receptacle. 1
2. In a mop wringer, a receptacle having a bottom, a bearing mounted transversely thereof, a wringermounted upon the upper end ofsaid receptacle, an elongated member said receptacle, ears upon the upper edge of said receptacle, and inopposed relation, a bail pivoted in said ears, said bail being bent to form a bight portion, a roller revolubly mounted in said bight portion, said bight portion being canted forwardly to dispose said roller at .an angle to said first named roller when brought into cooperative position, a treadle member mounted transversely of said receptacle and projecting upon oppo- ;site sides thereof, and link membersconnecting said bail and foot treadle.
JOSEPH H. DWORK.
extending through said bearing and extending upon opposite sides of said receptacle and forming a support therefor, said elongated member having its ends bent to form foot treadles, and a link connected between said treadle and wringer. V I
a receptacle, and. a roller mounted therein, of'a movable frame having a revoluble roller, a bearing on the bottom of said receptacle, an
o no
3. Ina mop wringer, the combination with elongated member oscillatable therein, and
projecting upon oppositesides of said receptacle forming a lateral support for said receptacle, the ends of said elongated 'member being bent to form foot treadles, and a link connected between said movable frame and said foot treadles, whereby said'rollers may be brought into co-operative positions.
- 4. In combination with a receptacle, a mop wringer comprising a bracket secured upon the inner circumference thereof, a roller carried therebyland disposed transversely of
