IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED POWDER-CANS AND CARTRIDGE-CASES.

Specification i'ormin'g part of Letters Patent No. 180,366, dated July 25, 1876; application filed March 6, 1876;

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, PAUL A. OLIVER, of Wilkesbarre, in the county of Luzerne, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in (J0mbined Powder-Gan and Cartridge-Case; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My in vention consists of a combined powdercan and cartridge-case, the latter composed of anouter ease having a hinged cover at one end, and an exteriorside handle, and provided on its interior with metal strips, holding the powder-can in position, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

To enable others more skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will now proceed to more fully describe it, referringto the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, c

My invention is intended expressly for the use of miners, more particularly in mining coal. The cartridges and powder at present are carried into the mine separately. 1 propose to furnish the miners with a package which accommodates the two together, making it much more convenient, and at the same time safer, the powder being in the inner can, an'd'the cartridges also protected from accidental mutilation by the outside shell.

I first construct a tight case-body, of metal Arepresents the main case; G, the partitioned space for the powder-can B G, the

receptacle for placing the cartridges.

This invention is cheaply made, and will be found very convenient for miners.

D represents a handle attached to the side of the case, and E represents the hinged top, which not only secures the cartridges in their receptacle, but also prevents the powder-can from slipping out.

Having thus fully described my invention, what Lelaiin is- A combined powder-can and cartridge-case, consisting of the outer case A, having the hinged cover E at one end, and the side handle D and the inner case B, which' is held in v position by the metal strips H, substantially in the manner and for the purpose specified.
