UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
WILLIAM WILSON, JR., OF WATERBURY, CONN., ASSIGNOR TO THE BENE- DICT St BURNHAM MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOP-HINGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,987, dated July 18, 1876; applicati-on filed July 1, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM WILSON, J r., of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Stop Hinges; and l do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to bea full, clear', and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure l, an end view in the closed position; Fig. 2, the same in the open position; and in Fig. 3, a rear perspective view.
This invention relates to an improvement in that class ot' butt-hinges-known to the trade as stop-hinges?that is to say, constructed so as to stop at a certain point in the opening; and the invention consists iu the'novel and peculiar constructionofthe stop, as hereinafter described, and recited in the claim.
The two parts A and B ot' the hinge are constructed and united in substantially the usual manner, save that at one or both ends there is a recess formed at the center around the pintle, so as to form a shoulder, c, on one part., and b on the other. Into this recess the stop is placed. This stop consists of a disk, d, perforated at the center, and corresponding in general outline to the tubular part of the hinge, the pintle extending through the stop, so as to be a means ot' securing this disk in place. The disk is constructed with two angular projections, t', arranged relatively to each other according tothe extent the hinge the purpose both of symmetry and strength.
One, however, will answer the purpose.
I claim- The herein-described improvement in butthinges, consisting in a recess formed centrally between the two parts, combined with aper" toi-ated disk, d, in said recess, constructed with angular projections i, to take bearing on l the shoulders a b, formed bythe said recess, substantially as described.
