Description

(No Model.) H. T SALISBURY.
I BRACELET. I No. 300,286. Patented June 10, 1884,
E; Z Fi 2 WIT N55555:
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
HENRY T. SALISBURY, OF PAIVTUCKET, RHODE ISLAND.
B RACE L ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,286, dated-Tune 10, 1884.
Application filed April 27, 1883.
To all whom (It 12mg concern.-
jBe it known that I, HENRY T. SALISBURY, of Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention has reference to an improvement in the class of bracelets in which the wings are hinged in a central box or ornament; and it consists in the combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a view of the bracelet. Fig. 2 is a view of the same with the central box shown in section. Fig. 3 is a View showing the bracelet open and the central box in section, with the springs bearing on the projecting arm of the hinge. Fig. 4 is a View of the bracelet, showing the box in section.
In the drawings, A A are the two wings of a bracelet. B is the central box. The wings of the bracelet are secured to the plate 0, which is hinged in the ends of the box B. The plate 0 has an arm, (1, set at right angle to the plate. These arms are less than half the width of the box. e e are two strong springs, secured to the box at opposite ends, and each bearing on the arm of the opposite plate, so that the wings are held closed by the springs e c, as is shown in Fig. 2, and when opened are forced against the tension of the springs.
I am aware that winged bracelets have here tofore been provided with springs to hold the (No inodelJ Wings closed; but such wings were hinged in the central box and the springs pressed against the wings. In such bracelets the ends of the box presented an unsightly appearance, as the spaces between the wings and the box were more or less open. By securing the wings to the plate 0, which closes the ends of the box, a more substantial and neater bracelet is pro duced, and by providing the plates with the arms d (Z a strong and durable fiat spring can be secured directly to and riveted onto the box. By this construction the bracelet can be opened wider and held more firmly when secured.
I am aware that winged bracelets in which the wings are hinged to acentral box have been provided with springs to keep the bracelet closed, and I do not claim such construction, broadly; but such wings when closed left openings between the wings and the central ornament, and were otherwise inferior in their.
operation as well as in their appearance.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent- In a winged bracelet, the combination, with the central box, B, and the wings A A, hinged near the ends of the box, of the plates 0 c,
provided with the arms (I d, constructed to close the ends of the box B, and the springs e a, secured in opposite ends of the box, and constructed to close the wings, as described.
HENRY T. SALISBURY.
